MSNBC Anchor and Radio Talk Show Host Go At It Over Palin/Letterman Comments

I very much doubt that MSNBC anchor, as she claimed, when publicly called a slut just sort of rolled over and took it (pun intended).

The verbal acrobatics and rudeness that she had to display in order to avoid admitting the obvious was incredibly enlightening. Even some of Dave's personal friends (if they're honest) would probably admit that he went too far on those Palin jokes.

However, the hatred and vitriol that Contessa Brewer has toward all things Palin is so clear and obvious in this clip that it speaks for itself. She wasn't even pretending to be neutral on this issue. Clearly, to her, it's okay to make vile anti-feminine jokes if the subject of the "fun" is a conservative.

Extremely unprofessional. Glad someone had the stones to call her (and her network) out on this.

I was prepared to comment on Letterman, but that MSNBC news person was such a vulgar unprofessional embarassment to journalism. Then again it is MSNBC.

From your comment I can't believe you and I (apparently) watched the same piece. Contessa Brewer does have her moments but this was not one of them. She tried, despite three obvious attacks by John Ziegler, to ask a simple question and was ridiculed each time. Then, changing the topic to a less inflammatory issue, Ziegler once again attacked her as if the question was hers (she was quoting an external poll).

Brewer didn't come off as a "vulgar unprofessional embarrassment to journalism" but Ziegler did show his true colors - and they are very close to your description. But then, Ziegler isn't a 'journalist' is he?

a few months ago Mr. Letterman asked Bill O'reilly if Rush was the "Spokesman" for the Republican party. after Letterman's tasteless joke about Palin's 14 year old daughter and A-Rod "Knocking her up".. i would like to ask if Letterman is the SPOKESMAN for the Democrat party?

Quite a leap there. Rush discusses politics daily, Letterman hosts a late night pop culture talk show. I don't see the connection.

Yes, the joke was tasteless and over the line. Accept the apology and accept the fact that everyone does make mistakes.

Contessa Brewer, I believe, was the brunt of Don Imus' insults years ago before joining MSNBC which may be the reason she was so defensive. However her comment at the end of the interview "turn off his mic" wasn't professional.

Meanwhile the talk show host featured in the interview is nothing but a carbon copy of most radio talk show hosts on the air today: Right wing and acerbic. He was correct about one thing however. MSNBC was very bias in favor of Obama when he ran for president last year. All one has to do is look at Obermann and Matthews as an example.

As for Letterman's comments about Palin's daughter (who is 18 not 14 as one poster wrote) and using the word "slutty" was demeaning and not funny.

I have NEVER liked John Ziegler and really, was rude to Contessa Brewer by baiting her. Thank goodness, though, because of his constant shouting on his show that John Ziegler has ruined his voice and is getting raspy, so we don't have to listen to him.

After watching The View this morning, the daughter in question (the one at the ball game with Senator Palin) was 14, not 18 Bristol. Really, I know some people are coming down on Letterman for this since its his show...but we all know that joke came from a writer. OK, so we THINK, dont know for sure.

What I'd like to know is what the man in the middle - A-Rod himself - thinks about all this? ???

In defense of Letterman and his writer, the Palin girl in the spotlight is 18.

It's too bad there was no fact-checking (about which daughter was at the game); if it was the 18 y.o., then it's fair game (no pun intended).

They should have fact checked, no fairness to Letterman or the writer needed. The one at the spotlight and the one at the game are two different people. Someone should have did their research.

..and if I'm Conan O'Brien's agent...or someone high up at the Tonight Show, I'm on the phone begging...pleading...screaming to stfu and stop giving Letterman press on a fellow network of Conan's...Dave has already pulled even with Conan...

ah..msnbc...as Dan Rather so wonderfully put it "Mighty Sorry, NoBody Cares."

c'mon! Letterman DOESN'T make POLITICAL "Comments" every day? WE were talking about that Sara Palin joke right, THAT'S political isn't it?
Letterman is STILL doing George W material for God's sake! Letterman is a L I B E R A L making POLITICAL statements under the cover of "Jokes"... and since he said something stupid, I am making him the Spokesman for the Democrat party!
