MTV to produce music shows now that they no longer promote music.(I give up)

Yes, MTV is bringing back "MTV UNPLUGGED" but they will air country artists on sister channel CMT and AC ish artist's on VH-1.

Now someone at Viacom realized they did not want to market MTV as a music channel finally like what a month ago. A decission 15 years long over due.So MTV is finally not marketed as a muxic channel and what is the first new show to come out of it.Yes, a music show. For a corporation as big as this, this is horrible PR.

Uh, no, it's not. They never said they were abandoning music entirely. In fact, they've often said quite the opposite. Music is a part of the overall approach. That neither means they're suddenly going back to trying to be an all-music channel nor that there's anything inconsistent in a lifestyle channel targeting their age bracket to include music in the mix.

No your right, I did not word it correctly. They are now a lifestyle channel and music is part of the mix but when was the last time MTV came up with a music idea?I don't pay attention musch to the channel but I am assuming its been a while.

BTW, I was trying like hell to think of the term "Lifestyle channel" in my original post. Thank you.

You're welcome. :D

The last thing they did for music? I'm not sure, I don't know the timelines of what came when for all of it, but it seems they're still running the morning music block and some music (or music and dance) based shows (reality with a music theme to them), and they've of course kept the video awards, so it's remained in their approach in a number of ways. And while much of the current audience may not have been watching Unplugged back when people like Clapton were on it, most of the current audience didn't watch the original Real World, but that doesn't mean there isn't still some vale in the franchise...and in this case, spreading it out to the other channels may register some familiarity with those who did watch the earlier incarnations or at least know the format/concept well enough to be curious about the ones with artists who appeal to them now.

The only thing, though, is if it's airing on other channels, why is it called "MTV Unplugged" and not called "(channel name) Unplugged", or just "Unplugged"?

The articles I've seen make no reference to the other networks calling it "MTV" Unplugged.
