MTV VJ's Gigantic F Bomb dropped on MTV's New Year's Eve show!!!!

Did anyone catch the very clear f-bomb dropped by Vanessa Minnillo? It was right after midnight and she seemed to be shocked that she let it slip. It was extremely unprofessional. Wouldn't you think that MTV would use a delay? As it happened so late I'm sure they will not get a fine but if it happened earlier they may have had some big problems.

It probably wasn't an accident either. MTV loves pushing the envelope. Remember the "Wardrobe malfunction" Super Bowl?

What else would you expect from MTV?

I'm pretty sure they wouldn't put the f-word on the telepromoter. Especially being that they are owned by CBS. But yes, I doubt anything will happen. Especially since it was technically after midnight and usually (maybe not in this case) few kids watching.

It's legal to drop F-bombs (and for that matter, your pants...) on cable-only channels at any hour. The massive fines only apply to channels that have an over-the-air signal.

There was some talk about changing this when the new larger fines for over-the-air indecency were being discussed, but it didn't seem to go very far. The attitude seems to be that if you don't want your kids exposed to F-bombs on cable channels, you should drop cable & put up an antenna.

Yeah, comedy central for example shows uncensored movies after midnight on occassions.

Comedy Central has been semi-regularly playing South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut since 2003. 146 unbleeped F Bombs over the course of 80min.

Sounded more like "bucking" to me than the F bomb, and looked like it was preplanned.

Cheep publicity stunt.

Cable TV = Not subject to FCC Indecency regs.

And actually polices itself most of the time. Imagine that?

Nothing will happen. It's cable. :)

...and after Midnight.

Actually, Viacom still owns the MTV family of channels after the split, not CBS.

Give her a break, there are worse things in life than an f bomb launched on cable after midnight on new years eve.

Nothing will probably happen with this UNLESS the same thing was being broadcast on MTV2 as well because there are many Over the Air markets for MTV2. Does anyone know if MTV2 was running this as well as MTV?

This is news to me...are you saying that MTV2 is carried on broadcast signals in some markets? Is this full-time or was it just for New Year's? Can you provide a list of these markets?

Full-time since 2001, when several stations that had been affiliates of The Box changed over to MTV2. Most of the stations are in the Southeast US, with a few in the Northeast and Midwest. Since the f-bomb was dropped after midnight, the only OTA stations that would have a problem would be in the Pacific, Alaska and Hawaii time zones, as the other 3 would be after 10 PM. The only station I know of in a western time zone that ever carried MTV2 was KNBX-CA in Las Vegas, but a) I believe the station is now a Spanish-language affiliate (possibly rebroadcasting Multimedios affiliate KMCC), and even if it were still MTV2, b) it's Las Vegas - whatever happens there, stays there.

Actually, we may be hearing something key on this subject later this year when the 2nd Circuit of N.Y. (I believe) rules on Fox's challenge to the FCC finding Cher & Nicole Ritchie's profanic (LOL!) doings on the 2003 Billboards show indecent (no fine attached). As explained before, it`s only a "over-the-air" issue, but it bears watching.

To those of you complaining, is it normal, every day practice for those of you to comment on stuff you have absolutely NO IDEA what in the world you're talking about??!!! ::)

Sigh.

"On occasion"?

Ummm...Comedy Central has been doing this for many months now. They do it every Friday and Saturday night after 1am ET. It's called "Secret Stash". Not only has it been movies, it's also been comedy specials.

I wouldn't consider every weekend "occasional".
::)

I watched a Dave Chappelle comedy special the other night with no cuts. Had to double-check the channel, to make sure it wasn't HBO.

Actually, IIRC, MTV promoted their New Year's Eve programming as being simulcast on MTV and MTV Tr3s, the latter of which also has over-the-air affiliates in several of its key Hispanic markets.

I'm not sure it was on MTV2, but still - OTA is OTA, and subject to FCC rules.
