MundoFox Makes KWHY-TV Channel 22 Its Los Angeles Home

e-dawg said:
Will tv station owned by FOX? I don't think it can since FOX already has a duopoly in LA.

Nope, it'll be just an affiliate of MundoFox; you'll likely some cross-promotion between 22 and Channels 11 and 13 though.

Look at Hawaii theres a broadcast group called Hawaii News Now its a Tripoly it owns a CBS station KGMB, MNTV KFVE and the NBC station KHNL. Look NBC did a tripoly in LA KNBC, KWHY and KVEA.

KWHY is force to sell because of FCC. As for KGMB/KFVE and KHNL. It's call Share Service Agreement. KGMB (5) and KHNL (13) are owned by Raycom, while KFVE (9) is owned by Hawaii Media Partners.

When NBC acquired Telemundo in 2001, Telemundo already owned KWHY in addition to KVEA. The FCC let NBC/Telemundo keep all three L.A. stations under a waiver until a buyer was found for KWHY. KWHY was almost sold off a few years ago (I forget to whom), but the economic climate basically forced NBCUniversal to hold off for awhile. The station was finally sold-off to local businessman Alex Merulo (sp?) last year; this is also the same gentleman that almost bought the NBA's Atlanta Hawks around the same time the KWHY sale was completed.
