MURF THE SURF – Looking for archival radio stories for documentary about Jack "Murf the Surf" Murphy

Hello radio community!

I'm a documentary producer currently working on a documentary series about the life and crimes of notorious criminal Jack Murphy, aka "Murph the Surf" or "Murf the Surf." Right now we're in search of as much archival material as we can find to build this story. Does any one know the best source to find old news stories from the 60's. I know that Miami based stations WVCG and WIOD in particular covered the story pretty heavily – but one is defunct and the other is now an I Heart Radio station).

Any advice or leads that any one has in this group would be greatly appreciated!

Here's a little context for what our story is about.

Murf was a Miami based surfer and jewel thief who rose to national fame in 1964 for the Star of India Heist, where he and associate Allan Kuhn stole the valuable JP Morgan Jewel Collection from the Museum of Natural History in NY, including the Star of India and the Delong Ruby. There was lots of coverage between Oct 1964 until they were sentenced in April 1965. After serving that prison sentence, in 1968 he was arrested again for the robbery of high profile Miami socialite Olive Wofford. In March 1969 he was convicted of murdering two women in Florida – referred to as the Whiskey Creek Murders. In 1984 Jack was released from prison after becoming a born again Christian and only serving 17 years of a 220 year sentence. He traveled around to prisons preaching the word of god until he died in September of 2020.

Thank you so much!
Sarah
