Musk's X signs content deals with Don Lemon, Tulsi Gabbard and Jim Rome

Former CNN Host Don Lemon, Former House Member Tulsi Gabbard and Sports Talk Host Jim Rome to have their shows on X. Previously when we talk about personalities signing deals on X it was about Tucker Carlson when he was removed from Fox News.

Elon Musk's social media company X is unveiling three new shows featuring former CNN anchor Don Lemon, former U.S. congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard and sports radio host and former ESPN star Jim Rome.

Lemon will "share his unique and honest voice in 30-minute episodes, three times a week," the platform formerly called Twitter posted.

Shows from Rome will stream on X five days a week, "starting after the Super Bowl," and 2020 presidential candidate Gabbard will be in "an exclusive series of documentary style videos," the San Francisco-based company said in additional, separate posts.

X has lost advertising revenue since Elon Musk bought it in 2022, as the billionaire voiced objectionable views including his endorsement of an antisemitic post. "We've found some other platforms better for reaching our customers," Walmart said in December.

Great to see. I never agreed much with Don Lemon, but I always thought his commentary was valuable in public and political discourse. Jim Rome seems entertaining for a sports talker, I'm sure his podcast on X should do fine.

I found this quote from Lemon in the article interesting:

"I know now more than ever that we need a place for honest debate and discussion without the hall monitors," Lemon said on X, calling it "the biggest space for free speech in the world."

The fact that broadcasters and politicians like these are gravitating towards podcasts just shows that the internet is the future for political (and other) talk, and TV and Radio will soon find themselves hitching themselves to the back of the wagon, trying to keep up.

It's also potentially a good move for X, as X may grow in podcasting, differentiating it from other social media, where the length of the videos seem to be limited (FB, Instagram, TikTok, etc.).

Is he kidding??

Unless he plans to bring back Periscope, there;s NO WAY this will be successful

He OBVIOUSLY didn't learn anything from the DISASTEROUS Ron DeSantis campaign launch

It's interesting that CBS News refers to Jim Rome as a "former ESPN host." Jim Rome is syndicated by CBS Sports.

Rome obviously has a loose contract that allows him to do things with other groups, but to not even mention CBS is nuts.

This is not a news story. This is a press release masquerading as a news. That's how it reads to me. They did copy & paste.

The disastrous DeSantis campaign launch was a different situation than uploading and running a podcast over the platform.

If Rome or Lemon have followers, they'll go where the podcast is, regardless of platform.

Now, whether it makes money, that is a completely different matter.

It’s not that crazy to think about. CBS, like many news outlets have web producers who know absolutely nothing about sports. I’m sure the person who wrote this probably had to google who Jim Rome even is

Rome used to be edgy. Now he's just a 60-ish dad trying to talk like his 20-ish son and his friends and not fooling any of them.
I wonder if CBS ewven knows that "Have A Take. Don't Suck" doesn't work like it used to either when Jim rome was syndicated by Premiere Radio in the 1990s

Back then, they stuck him on any station who would take him. Sports Talk stations, Hot Talk stations (He was REALLY popular on those stations who were smart enough to not carry "Opie & Anthony" like KRRF 1280 here in Denver was) & (I think) even some NEWS Talk stations too

He also made a habit of calling the PDS "Monkeys" too. does he STILL do that??

So long as the PD isn't Black, I see nothing wrong with a "shock jock" or "hot talk" personality calling him or her a monkey or any other simian species -- providing the PD knows it's just part of a shtick.

Here we go with Musk hyping up X and telling his followers to avoid "Legacy Media"

OK then. Musk may have said it in relation to Trump but who is legacy media?

Tech billionaire Elon Musk appeared to come to former President Trump’s defense on Sunday over media coverage of the former president’s “bloodbath” comments, saying people should use X instead to avoid being “misled by the legacy media.”

Musk suggested that the “legacy media” were taking Trump’s comments on Saturday out of context when reporting on the former president’s rally. During a heated rally in Ohio on Saturday night, Trump warned there would be a “bloodbath” in the U.S. if he loses the November election when talking about his proposal for steep tariffs on vehicle imports.

“We’re going to put a 100 percent tariff on every single car that comes across the line, and you’re not going to be able to sell those guys if I get elected…. Now, if I don’t get elected, it’s going to be a bloodbath for the whole — that’s going to be the least of it. It’s going to be a bloodbath for the country,” Trump said.

Hmm not a good look but at the same time when Don Lemon is assigned to interview Elon Musk then it's a case of Musk playing the same stuff that Mike Lindell did at one point in their lives.

CEO Elon Musk said his ketamine prescription was beneficial for Tesla's (TSLA.O) investors in a video interview with former CNN anchor Don Lemon posted online on Monday.

Musk said the drug helps him manage a "negative chemical state" similar to depression in the interview conducted this month that also touched on politics, content moderation on X and Tesla.

"From the standpoint of Wall Street, what matters is execution," said Musk, who runs the automaker, the rocket company SpaceX and the social media platform X. Musk argued Tesla was worth as much as the rest of the car industry combined.

A Wall Street Journal investigation published in January said Musk had used drugs including LSD, cocaine, ecstasy and psychedelic mushrooms, worrying executives and board members at his companies.

The report raised concerns that illegal drug use would likely be a violation of federal policies that could jeopardize SpaceX's government contracts.
