My 107.1 dropped its name and flip it to 107.1 Hit Music Now

Typical. Conforming to other properties in the region. Shouldn't surprise anyone.

I haven't been to the area in several months. What's CC doing with 97.3? If it's still Gen X Radio it should be due for another format flip. I've always thought the best use of 97.3 would be Gospel, similar to WHLW Montgomery... but I also can't help but wonder if a format that could be broadcast in mono (sports, talk, maybe even oldies) would make 97.3 relevant to Tally or Dothan... or is it just too far out in the sticks?

Now that I think about it, what happened to CC's plans to divest stations outside the top 100 markets? They probably want to keep Tallahassee... since it's the state capital with two large universities and all, but Albany should be on the chopping block. Georgia Triangle Broadcasting could probably do very well with the CC Albany cluster under it's umbrella.

The 97.3 frequency can move to Tallahassee which is a much larger market than Albany, Georgia. A simple on-step application to move the tower closer to Tallahassee will add an additional class C FM to the Tallahassee cluster.

CC is apparently at its maximum of five stations for this market, considering that Cumulus had to divest of 106.1 when they bought now-WWLD 102.3 and moved it from Cairo, GA.

107.1 has changed enough times that it's one of those stations that has kind of lost its way.

Tallahassee is kind of over-radio'ed. One format hole would be soft AC, like WDUV in Tampa.

The ideal situation would be for Clear Channel to sell the 100.7 C3 signal and move WFLA-FM to the more powerful 100kw 97.3 signal.

"News Talk WFLA, Bainbridge, Georgia", something sounds wrong about that. I was thinking a semi-simulcast with different commercial plug-ins for the South-West GA/Wiregrass/tri-state area would be smart. Fills in the news/talk coverage gap between Tally (WFLA 100.7) and Dothan (WUSD 93.7). Clear Channel could take Rush et al. from Cumulus' anemic news/talk AM in Albany. Leave 100.7 alone because of the terrain and reception problems Tallahassee has from out-of-Leon-county stations.

I didn't post this earlier because I haven't seen Clear Channel going after any Cumulus news/talk stations. We would love for CC to put up news/talk on FM in Mobile/Pensacola/Fort Walton but Cumulus owns the news talk AMs in Pensacola and Fort Walton... it just doesn't appear to be on CCs to-do list.

This isn't the first time I've been told I was wrong, yet my prediction came through to fruition just the same on several occassions, most recently in Orlando with the simulcast of WDBO-AM on the former classic rock WHTQ.

The idea regarding WGEX is to move the tower closer to Tallahassee creating a Tallahassee / North Florida news-talk FM on a 100kw stick. WGEX has always been Albany's "spin the format wheel" FM. It also has a less than city grade signal over Albany. It makes more sense to move it to Tallahassee and place the highly successful WFLA-FM on the much bigger signal and then sell 100.7 and the remaining Albany stations. The idea is to create a 100kw news-talk FM for Tallahassee, North Florida and South Georgia and not just Bainbridge.

If the fact that a station licensed to a city in Georgia holding the call letters WFLA-FM is the issue, the new WFLA-FM can always become re-licensed to a city in North Florida as a first service.

WFLA-FM 100.7 appears to be the current # 1 station in Tallahassee, if the ratings shown here on Radio-Info is correct. (If those ratings are correct, there are a LOT of unrated stations in the market, because there are at least four others that aren't even listed, in addition to the nine that show no rating. 107.1 is one of the no-shows with the current ratings chart.)

Kind of makes me wonder why they didn't put News-Talk WFLA on one of the other 100kw signals
back in 2006.

speaking of the Tallahassee's Radio ratings they didnt update it still back. Does anyone has any info how does 97.9 ESPN Radio doing in Tallahassee? I check the ratings but they didnt update it.

WFLA 100.7 is 11,500 watts station. It will be intersting to see how 97.3 from Albany Ga comes to Tallahassee to join clear channel of Tallahassee. Roll the dice and see.

That is precisely my whole point :)

Louis, there aren't any Arbitron ratings yet for 97/9, as Tallahassee is only rated twice a year.

Neilsen handled Tallahassee ratings for the past couple of years, so the only current data is Arbitron Spring 2011, in which 97.9 didn't get any ratings.

I kinda doubt that 97.3 could move much closer to Tallahassee and keep it's class C0 standing. You've got Panama City's 97.7 and Gainesville's 97.3 awful close by... there are probably other stations in the way too. It would be pretty easy for CC to swap formats between 100.7 and 107.1 just as things are now... but I like the idea of providing "new service" of news/talk radio to smaller towns all over 97.3's current coverage area.

What about HD Radio for Tallahassee? nothing happening for those FM stations 4 doing it. Not even WFSU/WFSQ either 88.9 and 91.5

HD radio doesn't appear to be adding new markets unless they have FM translators to feed. I think FSU pretty much bought up all the available translator frequencies in Tallahassee, so unless they decide to sell off some to Cumulus or Clear Channel, there isn't a good reason to add HD radio. It actually would hurt reception of the analog stations... if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

WFSU doesn't do HD? I'm surprised. All the other College/NPR stations in north Florida have HD (WUWF, WKGC, WUFT, WJCT). I'd be very interested in finding out why WFSU isn't broadcasting HD with 2 or 3 sub channels. They already have some translators to simulcast the HD2 and HD3 channels on. If they don't want to compromise their 88.9 or 91.5 signals, they have the option of putting HD equipment on 89.7 WVFS and using that to feed HD2 and HD3 signals to translators in Tallahassee.

None of the broadcasters hare are doing HD radio. I believe one of the FSU stations (not sure which one) and Opus-owned WWOF (The Wolf) are the only two even remotely close to being able to broadcast in HD.

It probably wouldn't be worth the expense. Of all the radio people I know, Louis is one of two that has ever brought up the subject of HD radio in Tallahassee. This is NOT an innovative radio market.

Alan is correct...both WFSU and WWOF purchased new transmitters with the consideration for adding HD in the future...but...neither are actually running it or having plans to in the near future that I'm aware of.
