My Country 96.1 Is On The Air... At Least Online

I found the "listen live" link for the new "My Country 96.1" and as soon as I punched it up, I heard a liner followed by a song called "Roll With It". Here's the stream link:
http://player.streamtheworld.com/liveplayer.php?callsign=WKJIFM

Meanwhile, the launch is scheduled for 12 Noon today... unless somebody knows something that I don't... anyone? Bueller?

By the way... Here's the corrected Facebook link:
http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=178307658876424

Incidentally, there does not appear to be any new call letters pending for 96.1 FM, per the FCC database.

EDIT: They are now playing a Taylor Swift song on the stream.

As of this writing, at about 11:05 AM, WKJI is still simulcasting WKJY.
Several sources online indicate the flip to country is scheduled for noon today.
Since the music is already streaming online, I wonder if when they change to the country format, whether they will abruptly switch while a song is already playing.
Anyone know if there are any changes coming to WRCN, which is also being taken over from Barnstable by JVC broadcasting?

Now that is weird. Maybe it's a "test run" for what they're going to be playing when they do officially launch? After all, it is going to start off with a 10,000-song playlist with no commercials, which could easily be automated. (The stream is running liners that we're listening to "10,000 songs, commercial-free"). And if that's the case, when did the stream actually start?

And most importantly... what's the station's new website?

Well, nothing spectacular on the stream. After Travis Tritt's cover of "Take It Easy," another TOH ID (could the calls be WJVZ instead of WJVC?) followed by the "Star-Spangled Banner" (couldn't tell if it was Carrie Underwood or Celine Dion, to be honest with you) and now "Roll With It" - again.

So it looks like "My Country 96.1" will join the growing legion of stations playing the National Anthem at 12 Noon every day.

I have 96.1 playing in the background. At noon, the Star Spangled Banner was aired (sounded like LeAnn Rimes singing it), but apparently as part of the simulcast with WKJY. As of this writing (approx. 12:10 PM) the simulcast is continuing. The station is still ID'ing at the top of the hour as WKJI. No country music yet.

No, it's WJVC.

You're looking in the FCC's CDBS database, which won't be updated for a while. Look instead to the callsign reservation database:

http://licensing.fcc.gov/prod/callsign/main.html

Plug in "WJVC" and here's what you get:

A request for WJVC dated 12/17/2010 has been filed.

The requests usually list the applicant; in this case, it doesn't, but I've determined through other sources that the WJVC calls are definitely bound for 96.1.

(Note that entering "WJVZ" reports that those calls are available.)

licountry.com is up and running now.

Jocks should be familiar to Long Islanders, and are all current or former Barnstable employees:

Phathead & Cande Roth (WMJC)
Party Marty Mitchell (K-Joy, B-103...)
Jay Letterman (WRCN, Love 96.1, WMJC, etc...)

Phathead is PD, Party Marty is APD/MD.

Info for My Country 96.1:

Website (type exactly as shown without "www." - otherwise it leads to a www.GoDaddy.com placeholder page): http://licountry.com

Listen Live links: http://player.streamtheworld.com/liveplayer.php?callsign=WKJIFM or pop-up player: http://licountry.com/player.html or http://provisioning.streamtheworld.com/pls/WKJIFM.pls

Stream is 32 kbps, 22 khz, mono. Tried to get an AAC link using all different call letter combinations; none found.

Cande Roth? Doesn't she also provide traffic reports for some of the NYC radio stations, like Q104?

Actually NO! Clear Channel has their own traffic division: "Total Traffic" which also services WNYW's "Fox 5" on the TV side. As far as I know Cande does reports for WHUD, WMGQ, among others.

As far as 96.1's stream is concerned, it's really quite shabby quality-wise. At 22kbps I'd have listener fatigue in no time. It's weak compared to it's closest "country neighbor" Thunder 106 in Jersey which streams at 128kbps and sounds Great!

Kudos for the guys giving country a run on LI! In the summertime LI and Jersey have outlets for great driving tunes enroute to the beaches!

Did I not mention one post above yours?

Thanks for the confirmation!

As far as the My Country 96.1 launch I got a dead carrier on the stream until a Legal ID erupted on at 12:04am followed by "Sugarland - Stuck Like Glue"

Seems "Thunder 106-like" a few songs in...

Not much of a cut-over. They legal ID for the combined KJOY and WKJI was played after a pretty long stop set full of local spots. Then as described below, at 12:04 there was about 10 seconds of silence followed by the Legal ID, which if I recall correctly is still WKJI. No sign of the WJVC call yet, but clearly that isn't an issue since JVC isn't the brand focus. (I thought I heard JVC broadcasting mentioned near the end of the stop set but it was so noisy that I couldn't be sure.
The stream has been up and running (and sounding very good), since about 9AM.

The good news is the 3rd or 4th song was Lee Ann Womack's Dance, featuring and Sons of the Desert (Tim Womack.) I hate the pop version.

On a personal note, I hope the 10,000 songs in a row ends soon (about a week?). I can listen to weeks in a row of country songs on Sirius. Country Music stations need personality. I can't wait to hear how Phathead, Marty Mitchell and Letterman keep country alive on Long Island.

Welcome My Country 96.1 and good luck.

Is it me or does the new website look like the old look for the Clear Channel websites? Where the menu buttons are and listen live button. The site is just without the top 10 songs on the right side like CC has etc.

As for My Country 96.1 good luck with the new format.

Phathead? Party Marty? David Leno (I mean Jay Letterman). Why do these same pennies keep turning up? Where's Hop-along Howie?
