My new DXing spot outside with a couple of sample video catches too

I finally made a little place I can go to outside away from the electrical noise of inside the house to listen to AM at night.

Here's a picture I took today.

So I had a little bit of time earlier tonight to get videos of a couple catches.

What a good steady signal from KNX

Here's WWL

I look forward to hopefully hearing some stations now that I've never heard before.

Thanks. His name is Cheddar and he follows me everywhere.

Overnight lows this time of year are in the mid to upper 50's at this elevation but it was in the low 60's when I was out there early in the evening to get the couple videos.

The sky can be crystal clear one minute and then it can suddenly be raining the next.

That's the Hawaii I remember from my junior year of high school in Honolulu. LOL

Anyway, great stuff, Gar. As usual. Thanks for posting.

Thanks, Cyberdad.

I had assumed that hearing a station like 970 WFLA Tampa would be impossible here or is it? I've never tried to listen thinking it would be a waste of time.

If I remember correctly, their nighttime pattern sends most of the signal to the east, has a null to the north, and also sends some signal in this direction and another lobe to the south.

970 here at night here isn't any consistent regular signal but I've heard KHTY Bakersfield and a second station which I guess could be KESP Modesto or KFBX Fairbanks, Alaska but have never had an ID from them. But I also haven't spent much time on that frequency.

Sometimes signals can be received from stations when their directional pattern doesn't favor the direction they are coming from, so is there any chance WFLA could make it here?

And except for Mexico, the signal path for the skip is all ocean too.

I'm on an SDR right now in Oahu (NH6XO, you can find it on SDR.hu). 970 currently is KHTY Bakersfield and there's one other underneath which wasn't airing Coast to Coast, they were not parallel to 830/KHVH. Likely KESP like you said. Odd that over here in eastern WA, KESP is dominant during aurora yet KHTY has never made the trip.
A faint Radio Enciclopedia Cuba is making it on 530! That's over 4,700 miles from Oahu. All alone, signal is around an S3.
KBRE/1660 is strong as is KCTC/1320. KHPY is on top of 1670 with KQMS under. XEPE is strong on 1700 with an S9 signal.
Switching from AM to USB to avoid KIKI/990 splatter, I can hear KOMO/1000 at an S5. CHMJ is good on 730 with Vancouver traffic, mentioning the bridges. An 800 with Crowded House 'Don't Dream It's Over' likely CKOR BC; 1460 KION CA is very strong with 'Power Talk' IDs and Coast to Coast. Fun to have this SDR operating, too bad I'm not over there right now.

Thanks for the report.

Nice catch of Radio Enciclopedia!

I couldn't hear anything on 530 tonight after seeing your post but I'm sure the receiver you were hearing is stronger than mine.

Enjoyed the videos. Thanks for posting them.

Your PR-D5 sounds a bit different from mine. A hair more clarity. Probably the analog IF chip (they changed the circuits to DSP in 2012).

Gar, I know I've asked you this before, but I can't remember your answer. When I was last in Hawaii, I heard Brisbane, Australia on 1116. Usually after midnight HST and later in the winter--late Feb--early March. Have you ever heard it?
