Okay, it is a fact that New York City (NYC) no longer has a Spanish Adult Contemporary (AC) station on the original FM radio. Both WPAT-FM's "93.1 Amor" and WQBU-FM's (currently WFME) "Que Buena 92.7" used to be Spanish AC stations serving the NYC area.
93.1 Amor eliminated the romantic songs in 2018, by changing its format to Tropical, similarly to its sister's station, WSKQ-FM "Mega 97.9", and Univision's station, WXNY-FM "La X 96.3". However, 93.1 Amor currently plays Bachata songs mostly by Romeo Santos because he is from the Bronx (an NYC borough), and present-day Reggaeton songs by Bad Bunny, Karol G, Ozuna, Maluma, Manuel Turizo, etc. Then Que Buena 92.7, originally a Regional Mexican station, had to change their format to Spanish AC to revive the romantic music in the city's region. But Univision decided to accept the deal with "Family Radio" when they offered WQBU $51 million to acquire their station. The switch occurred on January 20th, 2022. It is almost 2 years since the Spanish AC format has died in NYC.
Anyways, there is this new HD2 subchannel on the 93.1 frequency I have discovered this weekend. Yeah, I know I am very late because this HD station debuted in November of last year. This station is called "Radio Vision Latina 93.1 HD2". A brand new station, playing Spanish Christian music along with some Spanish Romantic music. Well, literally. So far, I was happy when I discovered this station because I've heard songs from Luis Miguel, Marco Antonio Solis, Franco De Vita, Sin Bandera, Shakira, etc. But the major drawbacks about this station is, that certain artists like Juan Gabriel, Cristian Castro, and Roberto Carlos, they only play the "Live/En Vivo" versions rather than playing the "Original" release versions. For example, I have already heard Cristian Castro's "Nunca Voy a Olvidarte" and "Mañana, Mañana" en vivo! Don't you know that the original releases sounds a lot better than the live versions? Because the singer does not sing as good as they did in the original ones. The audience cheering, screaming, clapping, and singing back the lyrics is so annoying. Do you think that is fair? I think the radio should consider playing the original versions, and not the live versions.
I might be wrong about this, because I haven't listened to this station continuously yet. If any of you guys check out this new HD2 station on WPAT-FM 93.1, can you please let me know whether or not they have played the original versions and not the live ones? I also want to know if they will play the exact songs that "Que Buena Nueva York" does. I can't tell the songs played on this station because their website does not have a "Recently Played" playlist. Oh yeah, they also play salsa songs just like Que Buena did. However, they also included bachata and merengue songs too.
