N.O. Rock & Roll Pioneer Eddie Bo Dies At 79

I got to see Eddie Bo when he had a semi-regular gig at Margaritaville several years ago. I got the idea I was probably the only person in the room that knew they were seeing one of the all time great New Orleans R & B masters.

I was hoping he'd do Check Mr. Popeye or one of his other songs, but he was just doing 50s R & B tourist covers. But I'm still glad I got to see him.

If you get the chance, go out and see and support Robert Parker, Irma Thomas, Al Carnival Time Johnson, and any other of the legends who are still with us.

Don't forget Fats, though it's doubtful he'll ever perform again. His health is good but he's slowed down quite a bit with age and he really doesn't feel like performing anymore. What a shame but at least he's still with us.

By the way, Eddie Bo also was the singer on Roger & The Gypsies' "Pass The Hatchet," the all-time favorite N.O. song to "pop the gator" to.

And let's not forget Frankie Ford and Clarence "Frogman" Henry. They're still rockin' along.
