N.Y. PPM RATINGS RELEASED-HOLIDAY BOOK PERIOD 12/11/08-1/7/09

To see the ratings grid from the www.radio-info.com ratings area, click on link below:

WLTW (106.7 Lite FM) was #1 by a large margin with one of the highest shares for a N.Y. station in years (8.3) & cume (nearly 6.3 million).

Later in this thread I'll add updates on demo breakouts, if & when available from newspaper/internet articles.

The next survey period is "January 2009": 1/8/09-2/4/09 with that data to be released on Wednesday 2/25/09.

Who said classic hits don't work anymore in NY radio? ;D Check the numbers, babies, check the numbers!! WCBSFM SHOT UP three-tenths of a point, from a 4.7 to a 5.0, in the latest PPM!! Classic hits are ALIVE and WELL and KICKING MAJOR BUTT in NYC!! :):)

With a huge playlist that appeals, minor repetition and constant specialties; what could go wrong??

And this was right after the second A to Z was aired. Impressive.

Keep up the great job WCBS and continue those Top 20 countdowns on Sunday nights. :)

LMAO! WALK FM Beat RXP and XRK!, if that doesn't say enough, those number speak LOUD. LOL! Rock in NY SUCKS! Glad to see XRK continue its downward trend, hopefully into the ground. Nice job CBS FM!

For what it's worth, CBS-FM does seem like it ended up getting a small Christmas music bump, even though the December book (which included the first two weeks of Christmas music on CBS-FM) did not reflect an increase.

Lite FM's increase is phenomenal, however.

I guess for next Christmas it's a toss-up whether or not CBS-FM does the Christmas thing again...it didn't help them a great deal but it didn't hurt them.

Interestingly enough, Fresh fell back down to a 2.7. Perhaps as it got closer to the holidays, more people finally turned over to Lite and CBS-FM for holiday tunes.

WALK on Long Island benefited from the holiday music as well, rising to a 1.7 in the full NYC book...pretty amazing.

hot 97 loses to power 105 in the 12+'s. could be a bigger trend in place, as gap has been narrowing in previous cross sections.

CBS spikes up - no surprise, x-mas book and heavy x-mas music
lite rockets o top - again, no surprise, they had an all xmas format
fresh falls of a cliff - seasonal

don't read too much into these numbers, they are a non-standard cross section

Look at the timeframe for the sample you jackass.

Well, in all fairness, RXP and K-Rock had the same abysmal numbers in the holiday book as they've had in all of their previous books. WALK "beating" them this time around is merely a product of the Christmas music it aired, though even before the holidays, WALK was hovering pretty close to these stations, which is an indictment as to how badly they are doing.

Ok so how much of WHTZ and WLTW:s super ratings come from morning-drive? How much credit can we give to the morning shows?

well looks like someone took this personally, could it be that your a loyal [EDIT] rock supporter, or perhaps your [EDIT] works for one of these pitiful stations? My point was you have 2 unfocused rock stations that get beaten by a long island station, that's pretty pathetic. Good for walk though, you agree "statenislandlandfill don"?

What might go "wrong" is the fact that the station has an aging audience. I think David Eduardo said that 'CBS-FM's ratings for the younger (30s, early 40s) audience was the same as Jack-FM's.

K--Rock sounds positively *abominable* these days! They're even more unlistenable for an extended period of time than 'RXP has been, and that's quite an accomplishment!

The near celebratory nature of the tone in which you first commented on the poor ratings of the stations was, I felt, in poor taste. That poor taste, coupled with your inability to scrutinize the data, warrented the term I used to describe you.

Focusing on the data...
WXRK flipped on New Years? You need at least thirty data-points to see anything worthwhile, so please save your glee for a later point in time when variance on the ratings estimator is lower.

I know everybody is ready to declare RXP dead, but I think it's worth nothing that they are inching upwards while K-Rock keeps slipping. If this trend continues, RXP could end up catching up to or even beating K-Rock before long. I think that is reason enough for them to keep fighting.
