Allan J. McDonald, the NASA director who refused to sign off on the 1986 Challenger launch for fear that the bitterly cold weather would compromise the ship's boosters, age 83 following a fall and subsequent brain damage.
The engineer in charge of building rocket boosters for NASA through the Ogden contractor Morton Thiokol and tried to prevent the Challenger space shuttle launch, Allan McDonald, has died in Ogden at age 83 according to NPR.
