Nashville's Revolving Country PD Door Keeps Spinning — Kaufman Out

Not to be outdone, Clear Channel Nashville says "We gotta have a new Country PD too", so WSIX's Keith Kaufman is gone.

wow. i thought he was gonna be g.m. there someday. he did it the hard way, worked his way up from the inside. he'll land somewhere soon. he's got a great programming mind.

Unfortunately, it seems to take more than hard work to keep a job in any industry anymore, not just radio. Hard work, knowledge, experience... no one pays for that any longer. When it comes to hiring talent, it all seems to be about youth and how cheaply someone will do the job — never how WELL someone will do the job. Examples from other media: cheap computer-generated anime is preferred over the lush, hand-drawn quality of Disney animation from the 1940s and '50s; newspapers comics that resemble something close to stick figures are preferred over the richly drawn works and full-page Sunday strips of the past; TV continues to become a wasteland of never-ending cable channels churning out cheap "reality" shows exploiting the cheap lives of cheap people; and the quality found in cinematic masterpieces has lost ground to youtube-style video. The world has gone crazy, and radio is just one medium suffering.

Here's hoping there's someone looking for Keith's talent, radio does need him whether the corporations know it or not. And the fact they don't seem to know speaks volumes.

Why is anyone suprised? He's an over-40 white male and probably making a decent salary.

It's been open season on anyone in that demo for several years now. That is the only demo that has no recourse on a discrimination suit.

Keith had been at the station for a long time. If memory serves me correctly, wasn't he the promotions manager, morning show producer for House and assorted other duties before he became a pd?

So the question is, with a country battle that includes 3 FM's and 1AM, CC might be looking for a better pedigree or someone in the CC talent pool that has been parked somewhere else.

The real answer is probably this...he was making too much money. They can get someone in there for less and the bottom line will look better for management.

So true!!! Have been trying to get a job...ANY job but keep being told that I'm overqualified... I now work at Publix so thats a hard one to take! Don't get me wrong, I am happy to have the job I have but I can not live on $10.00 an hour. Was just told this week that the last job I THOUGHT I was a shoe in for was given to a person that had no experience!....so back to Publix...
