Nationwide Emergency Alert Test Planned For October 4 - Radio, TV and Cell Phones

Most people have the brain cells to read and comprehend what is written in front of *them*. If a tornado is spinning on the ground in Tyler, but the radar in Shreveport is too far away from the city to pick up the rotation, or worse yet the debris ball, then yes, that's a huge problem. That is critical information that I, and my fellow Tylerites, need. We're not always in front of a television or radio to keep track of what's happening with the weather.
The other way of telling if the weather is dangerous, is when your Senator heads to the airport with his family for an unscheduled vacation.

Opening an office in Tyler, or close vicinity, has been my stance since we topped the 100K population threshold a decade ago. That would solve the problem without anyone having to take the throwing the baby out with the bathwater approach you propose. I almost feel like you're just trolling me. Perhaps that is actually the case.
@rosecity, I'm not trolling you, not even trying to. The point I was making is that the EAS isn't useless, testing it isn't useless, the granularity of the system is inadequate *for you*. That necessitates upgrading the system in places like Tyler, not eliminating it in the places where it is adequate, such as (using your example) Shreveport or Dallas. You have two senators (when one of them isn't -- as KellyA so aptly reminds us -- dodging blizzards by flying off to Cancun and letting his constituents eat cake in their cold homes) and at least one congressperson. Lean on NOAA and the NWS, lean on your local elected officials to communicate with Washington, get the system upgraded. The bare minimum they can do is add/upgrade equipment in Tyler so the weather guessers in Shreveport or DFW have better realtime visibility into what's happening and issue timely warnings, not miss pending disasters until they read about them in the newspaper.
My condolences to you. We still have plenty of room here, if you wish to join a healthy portion of your fellow Californians that have already high tailed it out of there, and found their way here.
I've logged my fair share of time in Texas. I'm here by choice. My fellow Californians are welcome to move there, and if I ruled the world those folks would never be allowed to move back into California when they realize their mistake. Hell, before moving to Texas I'd go back to the Bronx, which in my case is the original scene of the crime.
I'm not talking about alerts going out of which I have no interest, which does happen from time to time. I have no qualms with breaking programming for a storm (or any significant disaster) being covered on an area two or three counties away. I'm talking about an immediate threat to a specific area, populated by over 125,000 people, not receiving an alert of any kind until after the fact. It does us no good to have a city-wide system of sirens, controlled by a weather office in a completely different state, that isn't reliably being triggered simply because Shreveport can't always see or verify what's going on over here in real time.
We have no disagreement, but see above. You should get timely, actionable information about your area, and not so much about areas distant from you. But people in Tyler are generally smart enough to know when an alert isn't specifically for them, as long as they also know that they will get info appropriate for them when the situation warrants.

It's this Tuesday! Exciting times! :)

Your phone will blare a national emergency alert test on October 4 at 2:20PM ET

I have also been informed vaccinated people will be turned into zombies by 5G!

Heck, guys, just turn your phone off before it happens and keep it off a while. You'll be allllright.

So it appears the right-wing conspiracy theorists are hard at work. According to them if you've had a Covid-19 vaccine you should beware of the EAS test.
FEMA and the FCC will test a nationwide emergency alert on Wednesday, October 4, sending a message to every mobile phone across the country at 2:20 p.m. ET. But conspiracy theorists on TikTok and X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, are convinced there’s something more nefarious behind the plan. In fact, they insist the nationwide test will activate something within the covid-19 vaccines that could turn people into walking zombies.
“October 4th 2023 FEMA activates 5G zombie apocalypse. If you got the clot shot, you are screwed. For those of us who did not bend the knee, real estate is about to become much cheaper. We’ll need lots of ammo though. Don’t say I did not warn you,” one typical tweet reads.
The video shared by that account has been viewed over 150,000 times and counting, insisting that 5G cell phone networks were all part of the plot of harm Americans.
Over on TikTok, the conspiracy theory is spreading even faster, with some videos falsely claiming the cell phone alert will be “one of the loudest sounds ever recorded in history.” Other TikTokers are making “dark predictions” using similarly exaggerated claims about the “real” purpose for this emergency alert test.
Remember, these are the same folks that published what was supposedly a schematic of the little chip that was implanted inside your body when you got a Covid-19 vaccine. It turned out to be a schematic of a guitar pedal from Peavey or another, similar manufacturer. Geniuses these people are!

The "anti-radiation" stickers that people are buying and sticking on their phones to protect themselves from 5G's harmful radiation are literally radioactive:

The only effective shield is to wrap your phone in several layers of metal foil which is grounded.o_O

Whatcha know, the government was actually ahead of schedule! I got mine at 11:18 PDT. See what can be accomplished when Kevin McCarthy isn't standing in the way!
And some of mine were over 5 minutes late.

I'm watching YouTube TV right now (via Xfinity Flex) and have not received anything yet. I'm watching horse racing on FS2, so maybe that's why. If this notification was supposed to be sent to TV, would this sort of TV be included? Would I have heard/seen something had I been watching one of our area's network affiliates on YouTube TV?
