bpatrick said:(2) When does Panama City get its own CBS affiliate, eliminating the last link with Dothan?
bpatrick said:The Dothan/Panama City thing reminds me of Wilmington, NC/
Florence-Myrtle Beach, SC. For years the Florence end of that
market got WIS Columbia for NBC, while Myrtle Beach got WECT
Wilmington (both markets had ABC: WPDE Florence and WWAY
Wilmington). The Wilmington market had CBS from WBTW Florence
or WNCT Greenville/New Bern/Washington, NC (or, perhaps, WRAL
Raleigh). Then Wilmington got its own low-power CBS station, WILM Ch. 10,
(although it serves only two counties: New Hanover, where Wilmington is,
and Brunswick), while Florence-Myrtle Beach got its own NBC affiliate,
WMBF, which has been digital channel 32 since it signed on in 2008. Say
bye-bye to WIS and WECT. (Wilmington has never been considered part
of Greenville-New Bern-Washington or Raleigh-Durham, although I think there
have been times in the distant past when people thought of Wilmington and
Florence-Myrtle Beach as one market.)
Bottom line: (1) With the loss of the Wilmington and Columbia stations
in Florence-Myrtle Beach, there is no question that Wilmington and Florence-
Myrtle Beach are two separate markets. Each market has its own ABC, CBS,
Fox, and NBC affiliate. (2) When does Panama City get
its own CBS affiliate, eliminating the last link with Dothan? (ABC, NBC, and Fox
are, with an LP NBC affiliate in Dothan, represented in the two markets by
separate stations; only WTVY (CBS) is a de facto affiliate for both.)

Florence/MYB has always been it's own market. Wilmington never has been part of that market.
I wonder if Comcast is the cable operator in these four new LP markets? That would make life a lot easier for these upstarts.

The 'new' Dothan, AL NBC station is still not on the air. And frankly, I don't think it ever will be--a competent company would have moved much faster than this. For Pete's sake, WDON-LP still isn't a digital license!
EDIT: Looky what I found on a media brokerage site. WDON is apparently for sale. Good luck with that, April 2013 expiring license.

Huh? Jacksonville is nearly impossible to receive in the Tally DMA. I don't have a clue why. Tampa is a much easier catch... even Orlando... heck, PBS from Biloxi, Mississippi comes in just as often as other out of market stations.mgsports said:Also don't forget about Jacksonville Stations to.
bpatrick said:Gainesville, FL, has also basically divorced itself from Jacksonville and Daytona Beach; it has an NBC affiliate on digital channel 9, WCJB (ABC), and WGFL (CBS). I'm not sure if Gainesville gets the Ocala Fox affiliate.
poledo said:As for the new LP Panama City CBS affiliate taking the place of WTVY from Dothan.... it just happens to also be owned by Gray... so Panama City's new affiliate is owned by the same company that owns the old out of market CBS, WTVY. Nothing changes except for a new OTA LP signal in Bay County, FL.

They do.
