NBC Changes the Lyrics in Its ‘Peter Pan Live’ to Make Them Less Offensive

When NBC broadcasts its live version of “Peter Pan” Dec. 4, some of the song lyrics will have been replaced after the network determined that the original lyrics might be offensive, reports the U.K. publication The Daily Mail.

The production will include a version of the song “Ugg-a-Wugg,” the story reports. But the lyrics to the song have been changed, replacing made-up words that are described as “Native American-sounding” with nursery rhymes.

The move comes after the original words were thought to be offensive to Native Americans, the report notes.

I will set aside the time by pulling the Disney DVD out of my library and watching it.

Better yet, pull the Mary Martin DVD out and watch it.

I'd like to see the Julie Andrews version too.

PBS aired it for the first time since I was born, but what did UNC-TV do? A fund-raiser. They couldn't be bothered to show it later, at least not that I'm aware of. What I started to do was make a pledge and then say, "You will get my check as soon as the Julie Andrews live broadcast of 'Peter Pan' being shown this week on PBS stations is shown.

I intend to watch. After Peter was the evil father of Rumplestiltskin, anything will be better.

I saw the making of special. Some of the lyrics are still offensive. But G-rated isn't what it was back in the day. Pirates say much worse, so these are very clean pirates.

This is going to be a great show.
