NBC/Discovery Kids to end their partnership of the Sat AM block

According to Mediaweek, NBC and Discovery Kids have mutually agreed to end their 4 year partnership of the programming of NBC's post Today 3 hour block. It is not clear what NBC will fill in that block, but before a "speculator" goes on one of his jibberish posts, NBC does have to meet a 3 hour FCC required Kid Educational based lineup and, no, NBC will NOT just overturn this rule, not right this minute anyways.(the enviorment is not supportive of such a battle at the moment, but someday they will)

In the meantime they do have to fill this block, so one does wonder what they'll do. Mabye DIC could form another partnership, I realize they already have CBS's Sat AM Block, but prehaps they could help NBC as well. Universal doesn't really have anything other then Land Before Time, Shrek, Back to the Future and Woody Woodpecker to draw on, they never really built anything up. What you all think?<P ID="signature">______________

I disagree -- I don't think DIC would want to compete against itself, even if it's towards different demographics (CBS had pre-K progrmming with Nick Jr., while NBC had teens with Discovery Kids).

Maybe NBC plans on dusting off its "T-NBC" block.

Acutally, they were sitcoms, but yeah, that is correct. Even as a teen watching most of this stuff (and I'm 26 now), it was pretty much some of the worst written, worst acted garbage I even seen, especially thinking about it now.

And, as you've probably noticed, someone keeps pushing this dreck as "educational". "Bell" runs here with a station-posted "E/I" wart on it - which it doesn't deserve. It's as educational as watching paint dry.

Same applies to "Endurance", which in the end is nothing more than a glorified game of "Rock-Paper-Scissors". Fun, but definitely NOT educational.

"Endurance" does explore the one thing "Survivor" really hasn't tried: formal teams, where a team gets eliminated after each round. A JD Roth game show more deserving of the E/I designation would be "Fun House"; at least the contestants would get some test of their general knowledge.

"Fun House" and "Double Dare" may have had the greatest rivalry every between two game shows. :)

That's really pushing it. In my view game shows in general do not serve the purpose of "educating and informing" children or youth, and that must be a significant (far more than merely passing) purpose of any "E/I" show. "Fun House" fails to even remotely meet that goal.

Not really. Plus, Saved By The Bell is purely responsible for the demise of Saturday Mornings. Yes, the Today Show was a given for a Sat edition, but the toons could have still existed. But NNNOOOOOO, NBC decided let's do Teenage crap instead of Cartoons like Yogi Bear and the Smurfs. I never forgave them for that bonheaded move and neither have toon fans.

At least Discovery gave us Kenny the Shark:). Hey CN, NBC needs a partner, wanna loan Scooby, Bugs, Yogi, the Smurfs, the Snorks, Animaniacs, etc etc?<P ID="signature">______________
