NBC: Done With Donald Trump, Miss USA, Miss Universe

After Trump Sale, Fox Grabs Miss Universe for December

Fox will air the 64th Annual Miss Universe Pageant live Dec. 20. The three-hour event goes down at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas. As part of new owner IMG’s agreement with Fox, the network will also have domestic rights to air Miss USA.

“The Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants are iconic television events loved by generations of viewers around the world,” said David Madden, president, entertainment, Fox. “We are very excited to partner with IMG and The Miss Universe Organization to infuse a fresh new energy into these perennial broadcast favorites.”

Miss Universe airs in approximately 190 countries and territories. Contestants from more than 80 countries will vie to become the next Miss Universe in this special programming event, which will conclude with current Miss Universe Paulina Vega of Colombia crowning her successor.

Azteca América gets rights to Miss Universe

Miss Universe will get air time in Spanish-language TV this year, after all. Azteca América network has just landed the rights to simulcast the beauty pageant, which will be broadcast live this Sunday, December 20 from 7 to 10 pm ET from Las Vegas. It will be tape-delayed for the West Coast.

Vanessa Claudio and Poncho de Anda will be the hosts for the Spanish-language broadcast.

Azteca América’s decision to go after the “abandoned” pageant signals the network’s efforts to raise its visibility in the Spanish-language TV landscape.

Fox has advertised that the show will be on Sunday night. Using music more likely to attract those who want to look at the girls in their swimsuits than the women who probably are considered the target audience.

Miss Universe 2015: Host Steve Harvey Names Wrong Woman Winner

Well, this is awkward.

Sunday’s Miss Universe 2015 ended with host Steve Harvey naming Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez as the evening’s top winner… only she was really the first runner-up.

That means that Miss Philippines Pia Wurtzbach, who’d previously been named first runner-up, was actually the new beauty queen.

I actually thought he was naming the first runner-up because that's the way it's usually done.

I hear Trump said that would never happen on his watch.

The first runner up is traditionally announced first. It wasn't the order he said it in, rather that he said that Ms. Colombia was Ms. Universe and she was not. In the end, this wasn't that big of a deal. Harvey did a good job hosting except for that and the pageant received far more attention than it otherwise would have because of this. Viewership next year may increase solely because people may want to see if something similar happens again.

To me, the mistake is putting both categories on the same card. Seems to me that American Idol puts the runner up on one card, and then they open another envelope for the winner. It adds more drama, and prevents this kind of mistake.

Somewhere Bob Barker is kicking back in a barcalounger with a cold one and thinking
"so.....you think that job was EASY, eh, America?"

So is anyone in the conspiracy circle: that Harvey/the producers did this on purpose just to garner this type of publicity?

Donald Trump and Univision Settle Miss Universe Lawsuit

Donald Trump and Univision have settled their litigation arising from the Spanish-language broadcaster’s decision to not broadcast the Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants.

Trump used to own the Miss Universe company. Univision elected to not air the pageants after the GOP frontrunner made some disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants.

The terms of the settlement were not released.
