NBC: Done With Donald Trump, Miss USA, Miss Universe

Given what Trump said about Mexican immigrants, and then doubling down by saying - 'oh - what I meant to say was that all illegal aliens were potential rapists, not just Mexicans....he's too toxic right now to even consider using him as a reality show host or producer.

Jimmy Carter ran for office saying he'd run the government like a business. He discovered that the American people don't want that from their government.

Donald Trump’s Miss USA Pageant Finds New Home On Reelz

Dumped by NBC and Univision over Donald Trump’s remarks about “rapists” immigrants, the beauty pageant will still be televised out of Baton Rouge on July 12 after all thanks to some new friends in cable. In a deal with the Trump co-owned Miss Universe Organization, Reelz have picked up the exclusive rights to this year’s Miss USA pageant.

Unlike the wide reaching Comcast owned network that has been airing Miss USA since 2002, the Albuquerque, New Mexico-based satellite and cable channel is seen in about 60% of American households with one or more TVs. That means that Miss USA is very unlikely to see viewership of 5.5 million like what its 2014 NBC airing pulled in. Up until June 25, Univision was set to air a Spanish-language simulcast of the show.

AND...it was Reelz that years ago picked up "The Kennedys" miniseries after everybody else (including HBO, Showtime, and even DirecTV) turned it down.

But what's even better is that Miss USA will be seen live everywhere for the first time!

Macy's is the third largest department store chain after WalMart and Target, and has done the best of the three in recovering from the recession. While Kohl's. J.C. Penney and Sears are having difficulties, Macy's middle-market position is surrounded by a larger moat and populated by more middle and higher income persons. It's a really strong company.

Macy's earnings per share have gone from $2 in 2011 to $4.38 last year. Sales are now over $28 billion a year!

Uh huh.

You won't miss a thing.
I guess we can see them in their bikinis online.

Same for the national costumes later.

I just hate to add to my long list of stuff to do online. It's impossible for me to watch video at home.

I just got a new modem that costs $6.99 a month. No increased speed, but a new expense. I may not have actually needed it because after I plugged it in a different place, the old one was working just fine.

I can't even remember the last time I watched a beauty contest. Probably when I was in high school in the 1960s. This will be no loss to me or the world.

One difference in the pageant now compared to years ago is the girls seem more intelligent. There was a time, though, when they had an interview competition early, and we could weed out the airheads before we got to the "final question". The way it's done now is good for Youtube but there really should only be smart, capable women making it into the final round. True, they may have just been nervous, but their intelligence is more important than their looks since they all look good.

At the same time, now they introduce us to the girls in videos, which I guess are available online, and they all seem to come across as the smart and capable women they should be.

In the first of six local papers with TV listings sections, Miss USA is still listed on NBC. I'm guessing that will be the case for all of them.

Miss Oklahoma, the winner, certainly seems to be a poised, intelligent young lady. That she's beautiful is a given as all the contestants were. I'm sure ratings information will become available soon. I doubt it will compare favorably to last years numbers. Trump himself wasn't there apparently.

Anybody who wanted to view knew that it would be on Reelz, which is on most services, cable or otherwise.

For various reasons I couldn't have watched anyway. I made a real effort not to watch TV during the week other than "Jeopardy" and to catch up on newspapers. I don't have enough room on TiVo no. 2 to save "Family Feud" for later. So I watched it. TiVo no. 1 was committed to Fox and I think I haven't seen "Brooklyn Nine-Nine" but haven't watched the whole thing. Time Warner's digital upgrade caused me to be limited to one tuner on that one because I went ahead and upgraded before being told I didn't have to yet. That's if TiVo no. 1 actually worked.

I'm hoping to go online to see as much of the competition and learn about the girls who made it to the swimsuit round, and about their fun times wherever the pageant was. At home, it's still 1998.

I read that ratings were down. No surprise since not everyone has cable or satellite. And not everyone has this channel even if they do.

Donald Trump Sells Miss Universe Organization to WME-IMG

Donald Trump has sold his share of the Miss Universe Organization to WME-IMG, the agency announced Monday.

Trump recently re-purchased 100 percent ownership of the pageant group, which includes Miss Universe, Miss USA, and Miss Teen USA, from NBC as part of a lawsuit settlement. IMG has served as executive producers of both Miss Universe and Miss USA pageants in the past.

This acquisition expands WME-IMG’s portfolio of global events and media properties across entertainment and fashion, including more than 20 fashion weeks per year in cities including New York, Berlin, and Sydney; original lifestyle productions including this year’s “Macy’s Presents Fashion’s Front Row” taking place at Madison Square Garden; and global lifestyle festivals including Taste Festivals and Lollapalooza.
