Greenblatt should take a tip from FOX, which from my understanding, turns a blind eye to the amount Seth McFarlane's Family Guy pokes fun at FOX and especially FOX News.
I think it's "The Simpsons" that have been taking tons of swipes at Fox/Fox News over the years, and the network isn't complaining.
Them too, yes.
So did Married With Children. Remember Al's summons, "Everyone get in FOX position", as Kelly, Bud and Peg fell into preassigned spots in front of the TV, as if playing a linked human TV antenna?

I seem to remember them wearing foil hats to get the FOX station too.

Yes, I remember that too.

Back on message, NY Times reports that plans to return The Tonight Show to NY do not include Leno. Looks like presumed heir appearant Jimmy Fallon may be slipping his head beneath the crown very soon...

Yeah...what I'm seeing says NBC wants Fallon in the slot by February 2014 for the Winter Olympics (and to put Leno on ice for the remaining 7 months of his contract instead of letting him be on NBC one week and a competitor the next) but Lorne Michaels is worried about rushing it and is pushing for September.

Also buzzing about....possibly returning Tonight to a 90-minute format...and Lorne's supposedly hot about the idea of giving Fallon's show to Seth Myers (another reason to hold it until September, to allow Seth to finish out a season of SNL).

I understand NBC wanting to make Leno sit, but where is he going to go? CBS has a strong late night franchise, and they have no worries about their schedule. ABC is doing great with the move of Jimmy Kimmel to 11:35, and a solid lineup with strong viewing nights on Sundays and Wednesdays.

Their really isn't anywhere for Leno to go, except maybe for cable. No, TBS, don't talk to Jay!

Best solution is to give Jay ONE hour a week like they did with Jack Paar after he left the Tonight Show, or a couple of specials (4 or 6) during a season like they did with Bob Hope. It's a win-win. Jay can still be on the road in clubs with his act, plus he can still have a presence at NBC. NBC wouldn't be seen as pushing him out the door, and they can save face. . .or chin.

It doesn't matter what they do. They're going to have people complain. Lots of people. You don't build up heritage and just switch hosts like changing an oil filter. They didn't like it when Carson left either, but in his case they knew it was voluntary. Every time NBC tries to force out a host, either at Tonight or Today, it bites them in the butt, and there is no way around it.

Would a daily version of Weekend Update work at 11:35 (10:35 central)?

Is NBC so beholden to Lorne Michaels that the best they can do for one iconic position and another important one are two average contributors to SNL?

When SNL is their top rated show they are might be ;D

Or FOX. Which would put Jay up against late news. Give him a 90 minute show and he's on against Tonight, starts half an hour earlier and would be hitting his biggest guest a couple of minutes before NBC can get rolling at 11:35.

Does Fox, which has always skewed to the young demographics, want to invest in Leno?

I would think that Fox is gun shy about late night. First there was the Chevy Chase debacle, and after 10 years they pulled the plug on MadTV on Saturday nights. Plus, they expressed interest in Conan. Why they didn't pursue him more aggressively is beyond me.

Plus, the affiliates don't really want to give up an hour or so of inventory to the network, even at 11:00.

Bottom line: if they passed on Conan, they will pass on Jay.

Have any FOX stations picked up Arsenio Hall?
Maybe Jay goes to Hulu.com!

According to this Hollywood Reporter article (http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/arsenio-hall-s-new-late-414259), the FOX O&Os are not part of Arsenio's launch group. CBS owned stations and Tribune appear to be the big ones. Others are stations owned by Sinclair Broadcasting, LIN Television Stations, Belo Corp., Cox Enterprises, Media General, Post-Newsweek Stations, Newport Television, Raycom Media, The Grant Group and Sunbeam Television.

Even if some of those are FOX affiliates, syndication contracts typically don't include timeslot guarantees. If the network took back 11PM-Midnight or 12:30 for a Jay Leno show, they'd be able to move Arsenio back to start following Jay. In the largest markets, though, it appears Arsenio will air on FOX's competition, which might be another incentive to get in the late-night game with someone of Jay's stature.

And imagine if they win...if Jay, starting half an hour earlier, damages NBC, CBS and ABC local late news ratings around the country, and beats Fallon, Letterman and Kimmel. There's enormous upside here.

Jay has one of only three shows on NBC that win their timeslot (the other two are SNL and NBC Nightly News).
And SNL's only national competition is on cable (Which BTW includes the Comcast/NBC properties)

Cheers & 73 ;D

Some NBC affiliates have been pushing for networks to do prime time from 6:30 to 10:00 in the Pacific Time Zone (as well as Central) for years now. It was tried on an experimental basis in some markets. Network owned stations make more money from their local news but still network ego won't allow it.

NBC is in such bad shape, it might make sense for them to go to prime time from 8:00-10:00 and cut programming costs. News demos skew old and old people don't like to stay up late. A lot of affiliates are feeding a 10pm late news to indie stations in their markets.
