NBC First Orders, Then Rescinds Order For, Additional Episodes of "Three Wishes"

Broadcasting and Cable.com is reporting (registration may be required) that NBC first gave an order for six additional episodes of the reality series "Three Wishes" (which would have kept the show on the air until early February), but has rescinded that order, putting the show's future in doubt.

The article reports that the network is looking to free-up funds for new program development. But reality shows are relatively inexpensive to produce. An episode of the most expensive hour-long reality show costs much less to produce that the least-expensive-to-produce hour-long drama or two episodes of the least-expensive-to-produce sitcom.

Given that, I wonder if there is some other reason why NBC has apparently decided to pull the plug on "Three Wishes". I think there may be a "story behind the story".

It's not a bad show. I've watched a couple of shows recently (only because there were two different shows that were filmed in Northeast Ohio), but I think NBC is doing a disservice by not pairing it up with the proper programming.

Who knows... it appears to be winning its time period (at least the two times I checked it did and something shows on NBC do not do all that often this season.) It is a great show in a lousy time period. Friday nights are almost as much a dog as Saturday nights are.

I hope NBC rethinks this move, orders new episodes and moves it to a better time period (how about Wednesday nights at 8:00 after the end of The Apprentice - Martha Stewart.)

There was talk of moving it to 7p Wednesday and moving E-Ring to 8p Friday to try and save E-Ring but it hasn't happened yet (this was rumored to happen about 3 weeks ago)

Let's talk about E-Ring...
Show seems fake, forced, and not real good.
Would have done better as a lead-in to West Wing.

I'll disagree with the part about "not real good", but I do agree about it being a good lead-in to "West Wing".

I would not be surprised if "West Wing" gets moved back to it's original timeslot of Wednesdays at 9 P.M. (ET/PT) once Martha Stewart's "Apprentice" is over.

So those two shows may very well run back-to-back anyway starting at the end of December or early January.

There is one potential problem if "West Wing" is moved back to Wednesdays at 9 P.M. ET (as I think it will be): I believe the results show of Fox's top-rated "American Idol" will be broadcast from 9 to 10 P.M. (ET/PT) on Wednesdays beginning in January.

Not quite. The "Three Wise Ones" have to sift through all those auditions first. The final twelve won't start their sing-off until after the Olympics.
