Ahh but the times (Like everything else) change, my friend ;DIF NBC couldn't make it happen in the 80s - before the influence of NPR grew to its current level of popularity - what is the chance that a national news network would work now? Almost none, I think.
And actually, it was the late 60s & 70s when NBC tried it
