NBC Sports Radio Network thinks Jamestown is Buffalo

^ Closer than WKWF 1600 in "Miami", really Key West....120 miles by air.

They list WFNS 1350 in "Jacksonville" (FL), which I think serves Waycross GA.....

Hmmmph.

Actually RADAR ADI. Radio networks fall into RADAR. There's a town in Wyoming that somehow falls into the Denver ADI. That one always makes me smile.

That makes no sense from a radio point of view--but you have to remember, NBC hasn't been a presence in the radio business since GE sold off all the radio properties, from O&Os to networks, back in 1988. The current owner, Comcast, is a cable TV operator, and its chief operating officer grew up in TV front offices. They're looking at it the way they look at how TV networks have been structured, according to presence in the TV ADI.

That has nothing to do with it. This network, like the corresponding CBS Sports Network, is being marketed and sold by a radio syndicator. As I said in the previous post, the markets given are RADAR ADIs, not TV ADIs. That's how the network is being sold to sponsors. You can read about it here: http://www.arbitron.com/national_radio/radar.htm

The NBC TV network and Comcast are not involved in sales or affiliations. Same with CBS Sports. The only sports radio network, AFAIK, that is syndicated and sold by the TV network is ESPN. It had previously been affiliated by Cumulus, but that ended when the CBS Sports Network was announced.

Albany, NY will be apparently having NBC Sports Radio on WENT in Gloversville, which doesn't even reach the Capital District :) Hopefully they get CBS Sports Radio on a better signal though (like 1300 or 590...)

WFWR is on Key West, sure. In the middle of the OCEAN. That measly 500 watts on 1600AM gets out a good 75-100 miles by day thanks to saltwater conductivity. Admittedly, probably NOT all the way into Miami, of course; too much land in the way and I'd guess that WHTY (also 1600) travels enough down the coast to make hash out of WFWR.
