NBC Sports to start a new sports radio service

as I said in the Boston part of this site,
Someone needs to do something because other (current) 24/7 Radio networks ("Fox Sports Radio", "ESPN Radio" and "Yahoo Sports Radio") is not on LIVE
Someone needs to do something and have LIVE Talk shows 24/7 365, because they have to remember listenners in Alasaka, and Hawaii. Because when it's overnight here, it's still late afternoon there.
So, someone needs to do something, and think hard!

good news: maybe some fresh voices, deeper content shoes, the pro "insert sport here" talk.com platform crossover (could be a bad news item too), olympic coverage, dial platform integration, nbc news outlet, play by play?, competition for espn, cc.

bad news: nbc crossover dross, lots of tape delayed tv segments,

really BAD news: the return of erik kuselias. maybe they'll buy him out by september...

When NBC first hired Kuselias, they sang praises of how "versatile" he was. You have to wonder if a NBCSRN radio show (or the launch of NBCSRN, in general) was in the back of their minds when they hired the two-time ESPN Radio employee away.

It'll be interesting to see which FSR or Yahoo! affiliates (or even a few ESPNs) make the switch to the new network.

If not full affiliation switches, I wouldn't be surprised to see mostly FSR and Yahoo! affiliates use the NBC services in the evenings or at night (where it will first program long-form shows). Especially if they can get a good host or two to 'stir it up' when local/regional play-by-play isn't on.

I was just going to say these, of what you and the Goldon Boy just said

Good host...They should hire Arnie Spanier, if Yahoo hasn't already hired him. He had one of the best National Shows when he was on SPorting News and One on One Sports.

There is not one program director in America that would want Erik Kuselias on that station or network. He is a freak and continues to bounce from job to job as much as he falls in love.

I didn't read the article beforehand. Looks as if they're going to start off with just two night-time programs, so I don't expect full affiliate changeovers for quite some time. For the one show starting at 7p Eastern, I'd take that over Petros & Money.

How about 95.7 Fm in San Francisco I see this as a potential candidate. But I know in the Dial Global site they will air NBC coverage of the Olympics in July and August.

good point about costas. his old radio weekend show was decent.

he's getting older and needs to transition into a lesser role media wise. his awkwardness with the "UK rooster" during the post US open live shot was kind of sad. the golfer handled it perfectly but bob was stiff and like an old out of touch uncle.

he's good in longer segments that don't really exist in today's climate. maybe nbc/dial will need programming and give him some longer exposure and time in exchange for his name.

all contingent on him not replacing bud selig...
