NBC Sucks Again... For NOT covering the Olympic Ceremonies LIVE.

You do understand that the BBC isn't facing the time zone issue NBC is, right?

You further understand the BBC paid a fraction of what NBC paid for the rights AND it receives state support, right?

NBC is doing a great job, IMO.

NBC is okay for the coverage of sports, but we can do without the extra fluff. And remember that they pulled this tape delay BS even when the games were in Atlanta and Vancouver. And if you live on the west coast, EVERYTHING is tape-delayed, period.

And of course, we especially despise NBC for tape-delaying and hacking up the opening ceremonies, while all other countries (including private networks such as CTV in Canada, Televisa and TV Azteca in Mexico, and the Nine Network in Australia) carried the ceremonies live, with a replay in prime-time for those who missed it the first time. Sorry, but paying billions for rights carries no guarantee that everyone will be pleased.

Look at Floyd Mayweather he used the Philippine Press and Pay Per View to accuse Congressman Manny Pacquiao to hype up a boxing match in 6 months. Well I like to see the Chinese IOC and US IOC officials to a 12 round boxing match against each other in Manny Pacquiao's country the Philippines to they can prop up Thrilla in Manila 2016 edition .

The next three Olympiads are pretty much ahead of New York's time, Like Russia in 2014 (+8), Rio in 2016(+1), and Korea in 2018(+13). If you're looking for another network for the Olympics besides NBC Universal/Comcast. You might as well just grin and bear it.

For Russia and Korea, showing games on a delay is par for the course, for obvious reasons, but showing the Rio games on the delay will be inexcusable, as only being one hour later than Eastern would give NBC an opportunity to show the ceremonies and many top events live.

Of course, if you live on the West Coast, it won't matter at all, as, until NBC changes its ways, it'll still all be on tape delay in the west.

They'll probably try to pull for at least some live stuff in Korea. They were able to get a lot of live stuff in 1988 due to their pull. But in 1998, CBS tried to get some stuff live and due to a number of circumstances, it was a disaster. Not to mention the figure skating finals and Picabo Street's gold aired many hours after it happened.

Yes, it isn't just NBC that has aired stuff on an extreme tape delay in America.

And just imagine if Fox or ESPN/ABC now had it, even if they did show marquee stuff live. Who would want to sit through something with Fox's attitude or Chris Berman.

Or CBS and Turner in a joint venture, with the Olympics on CBS, CBS Sports Network, TBS, TNT, and truTV (the latter for boxing just like CNBC).

Greg Gumbel, Jim Nantz, and James Brown would've handled daytime, primetime, and late night on CBS respectively; not sure about Ernie Johnson's role. But it would be great to hear Verne Lundquist call the gymnastics or Jim Lampley do boxing.

Good news for people that don't want taped-delayed-coverage-with-Ryan-Seacrest, and live near a border or have a gray market sub, CBC is regaining the Winter/Summer Olympics starting in 2014, according to the Canada TV board. I'll be watching! I get CBUT/2 Vancouver on cable channel 99 here in the Seattle area.

Just sayin'.

I realized KARE-TV has a digital sub-channel for Weather Nation programming, so I guess some folks at the station found no need to interrupt Olympic programming if many local TV viewers and listeners had a source for weather information broadcast locally over the air. Also the station should have the option to broadcast local weather reports during breaks for Olympic programming.

CBC just gutted their OTA network as of July 31. All of the 600+ analog transmitters were shuttered nationwide leaving a small number of DTV stations (many low powered) for OTA coverage. The days of CBC-TV borderblasters are over.

Many of these weren't "border blasters" to begin with, considering that many of these were low-power. Also, except in a few places, Americans that watched the CBC along the border mostly got their shows from stations in the larger cities. Not much of an issue unless you live in places such as International Falls, Sault Ste. Marie or Presque Isle, where cable systems in these communities had to find alternate means to bring the CBC to their subscribers.

Back to the Olympics -- maybe the CBC found money to get the rights by closing its repeaters and using the proceeds from the sale of the transmitting equipment.

One of the weirdest things you won't be seeing is The Olympic Flame-which was located in the middle of the field over at London's Olympic Stadium, is made out of over 200 torches. It is now relocated at the stadium's north end for the signature event-Track & Field. The Flame is hidden from the view to the public; it stands only 12 feet, and the only way you can see The Flame in person-You MUST have a ticket to enter the stadium for track & field events because it is not open to the public on non-event days. A good place for the place for the flame would would be at the top of The Orbit Tower-which is located right next door.

The Olympic Flame is supposed to be a centerpiece for the games, for all to see -- keeping it out of sight unless you go see a track and field event is practically a low blow.

In 2010, The Winter Olympic Games had Two Olympic Flames: One inside BC Place in Vancouver-An Indoor Football Stadium prior to its recent retractable roof transformation; and the other, next to Canada Place-A Convention/Exhibition Hall which is now used as a fountain.
