NBC to air Emmys live coast-to-coast; could the Grammys be next?

http://www.businessinsider.com/nbc-airing-emmys-live-for-first-time-2010-2

They did it with the Golden Globes, and they could do it again with the Primetime Emmys.

Maybe next year, CBS should consider airing the Grammy Awards LIVE in all time zones at 8:00 Eastern/5:00 Pacific (followed by "60 Minutes" on the West Coast of course); that way, we don't have to worry about any Twitter spoilers.

And I think that the Oscars should be aired live in Alaska and Hawaii as well (at 4:00 and 3:00 pm respectively) to prevent the same fate. It's all about the power of Twitter; what do you think?

Its not all about Twitter. This is not a new phenomenon. The first time I heard about it was with the first season of Survivor. Richard Hatch, remember him?

But yes, I don't see any reason why events like this should be tape delayed in one time zone and not another.

Oh, you mean, much like The Hallmark Channel has been wasting their time airing "Golden Girls" reruns for the last four years?

You know, there's a reason not one cable network has sprung forward and started airing reruns of "Perfect Strangers." Now, that show is worthless crap...

As far as the original subject matter of this thread... It doesn't surprise me that cash-strapped NBC is going the "sports window" route in telecasting the Emmy Awards. Can you imagine how much extra money it could cost NBC to record the awards show, and play it back for the West Coast three hours later?

NBC used to carry the Miss America pageant live from coast to coast, back in the days when Miss America still mattered. Last weekend, they crowned a new Miss America, and almost no one even noticed!

Well, CBS should still consider airing the Grammys live from coast-to-coast next year so that those on the West Coast don't want to be spoiled thanks to Twitter.

And the Oscars are broadcast live in the Lower 48, but not in Alaska and Hawaii. I remember the 1996 awards being aired LIVE at 5:00 pm here in Alaska when it was still on a Monday (they moved the ceremony to Sunday in 1999), and I think it should be carried live at 4:00 this year because as we've learned with the Golden Globes, we don't like spoiling ourselves on who already won while watching it on bad old tape delay at 7:00. We want to see it AS IT'S HAPPENING!!!!!
