NBC to Start News Channel in New York

They only mention the channel will be broadcast on cable. I wonder if they will use one of the digital subchannels for an OTA broadcast.

Lead story of NERW this week

New York's Newschannel will be OTA too, not just cable. It'll be on 4.4 for those ubergeeks who insist on using an antenna.

NBC also plans to rename WNBC.com as NBC New York, something that NBC already does in San Diego.

Ubergeeks? Maybe there's some people who don't find what's on pay TV compelling or don't see the need to pay for television or perhaps can't even afford it.

I use both. I have an antenna connected to the back of my Directv DVR. Since Directv does not carry local subchannels over the satellite, I connected an antenna to my DVR to receive the subchannels. Although the only one I ever really watch is NBC Weather Plus.

Once again why are you so bitter and angry at people using OTA reception? Is it because they are not using the latest in technology like having cable or satellite? Or do you have some sort of superiority complex towards OTA users? I suggest taking a long look in the mirror sometime.

We have cable, but just the most basic (65 channel) plan offered. Tried digital and thought it was a crock... sure there were 600 channels, but it took you 5 minutes to switch from one to the other. Not to mention it was the same old garbage, just a larger selection of it. Plus I'm tired of getting hosed by big corporations. The prices are out of control. If our housing situation was different, I'd put up a rooftop antenna and scrap the cable altogether. So until they come in and rip the old analog boxes out of my house, I'm not changing a thing.

Plus, it's not healthy to have 800 channels, video-on-demand, and high-speed internet 24/7! I think people forgot how to go outside and have fun. ::)

I still havent seen it, although they changed their website

now it points too (http://www.nbcnewyork.com/)

Apparently they are marketing themselves as "NBC New York - Locals Only"

It'll be interesting to see it launch, and how it's recepted

It seems NBC has switched website providers from internet broadcasting to Broadcast Interactive Media.

They must offer cheap websites or something because stations seem to be hopping over there as soon as they can.
