NBC touts Law & Order's last episode EVER as The "Season Finale"

What Gives??? What a worst way to end the show's 20-year run over at NBC. No tributes, No proper farewell, Everything has all been worked has completely gone out of sight. It was NBC's decision to end everything all of a sudden. This show had a huge fanbase , but it has drawn the bottom line. And it was due to the declining ratings, and other difficulties. And it was NBC's own call to end it that way.

Either (1) the promos were produced before the show was cancelled, or (2) the network gave themselves "insurance" in case another program fails this fall.

Think of it this way: The "Law & Order" season is over... but the "CI," "SUV," "LMNOP," etc. seasons continue... :)

With just one episode left this season, things are pretty much in limbo right now because of all of the uncertainity that transpires. Law & Order might be going over to TNT is finish off the final season will fresh new episodes for 2010-11. While NBC's got "SVU" & "LOLA" on their announced Fall-TV schedule, This might also be the end for "CI" because that show was built around Goren & Eames, but the torch is now handed off over to Stevens & Nichols. And with that, you can expect "CI" to leave very quietly over on USA Cable.

CI continues to do well over on USA. Whatever happens to the parent has no bearing on that.

And technically, it IS the season finale for the original show. TNT isn't going to be doing new episodes; you might see a stand-alone wrap-up sometime in the next season.

I guess the reason why NBC said the "season finale" is that maybe one of their cable networks could pick it up, USA would
be a good fit since they already have "CI", and i'm sure Dick Wolf would like to keep all of his "L&O" franchises under the
NBC Universal group, for now.

As a series, it's dead. Plain and simple. (Twenty years is like, what, 190 dog years or something? :D ) It's not going to USA, it's not going to the CW (seriously, look at their appeal to young females and explain how it fits there), not to My Network (hello...no originals), not to TNT, not to the Weather Channel. It might get that wrap up, but that's all.

"Law" fans, consider yourselves lucky: At least the show is not produced by David Chase. :D

NBC stated earlier this week that there was a possiblity of two hour wrap up 'movies' for both L&O and Heroes- so this probably isn't a finale.

"Law & Order" is such a powerhouse as a franchise- making NBC at least $1 billion over its run- that the idea of L&O original movies featuring crossover between old cast members and new is a terrific idea for NBC and their cable networks like USA. Its a more cost effective way to keep the franchise alive and healthy.
