NBC WINS 2ND WEEK (WISHES FOOTBALL SEASON LASTED 52 WEEKS)

NBC was on top again last week (TV by the numbers). This is their 2nd week on top
this season with Sunday Night Football leading the network. But, how long can it
last?

What can NBC do when football season is over? Bring back Roller Derby? How about
Sunday Night Boxing?

With the way that football is just blasting away all other programming in the ratings,
can another USFL/XFL spring experiment be far behind?

With talk of a possible lockout for next season, and not giving it the 'pro wrestling' spin ala' the XFL, it might actually work, as the Arena Football league folded (I think).

BTW, I really became a fan of 'The Sing-Off' during the last few weeks. I normally watch very little NBC programming otherwise.

Arena Football took a year off last season, due to financial concerns. It's back and on NFL Network.

Actually, a revived USFL is supposed to return in the Spring of 2012. Check this: http://www.newusfl.com/

Another interesting item: The UFL (United Football League) which just completed its second season, has its TV contract with Versus. Versus is owned by Comcast. Comcast is buying NBC. Wonder if the UFL could be Sunday night filler if there is a NFL lockout?

Correct. The current version of The Arena Football League is actually a new business entity that bought up the intellectual property of the failed original league, and is comprised of some former AFL and A2 teams.

NFL Network also has rights to the CFL, as does ESPN3.com.

If the NFL does lock out the players, rumor has it that they would defect to the UFL. Sounds like that would be deja vu Players League of 1890 all over again, with probably the same results.

Out of any of these leagues, the USFL no doubt had the highest quality on-field product.
Many of their coaches and players went on to very productive NFL careers. In fact, it was
only Donald Trump's stubborn insistence that they had to move to the fall and take on the
NFL directly that doomed them. The USFL team here in Pittsburgh closed up shop the next
day, there was no way they were going to take on the Steelers.

The UFL is very hard to watch. The lime green markers and flags are just disturbing.
Likewise I recall the WFL being rather hard to watch. The XFL at least was entertaining,
with the "Safety Scramble", over-the-top cheerleaders and hokey wrestling promotion.
