NE Ohio Oldies Radio in search of a good woman!

The FM 88-9 Sunday Oldies Jukebox has a new on-air hostess / DJ opening
for our 50's 60's commercial-free Sunday memory music.
This "new" 2 hr volunteer Sunday afternoon air-slot is specifically earmarked for a female voice.
Experience is preferred, but we will consider training good local potential talent.
If you think you have what it takes to be a part of the FM 88-9 50's / 60's Oldies Radio team
and would like to be considered for this rare broadcast opportunity,
contact Program Director Bill Weisinger at [email protected] or via the website at
www.SundayOldiesJukebox.com ASAP to learn more.

You might want to change the wording on this, since, as is, it's illegal as hell, and this type of wording has been for a long, long, long, long, long time.

Volunteer or not, unless it's a position that calls for a specific gender (like a men's locker room attendant), you can't advertise for a specific gender or race, or age, etc.). That's why 'women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply' is found on virtually all open position ads.

Isn't this station part of an educational system in NE Ohio? You think they'd know better. Makes one wonder what else they're not doing correctly.

Take a pill and relax. Uncle Bill is, from what I understand, one of the fairest people around.

Well seeing that you are trying to be helpful, help Uncle Bill out and reword this for him.

And on a related note, it was well known when I was interested in breaking into the business that when a job posting had the letters "EOE" on it, that meant that the station was trying to meet a quota. Made a convenient excuse for me to cover up my laziness and lack of talent.

No gender bias/unbalance intened.
Actually I'm trying to provide a little volunteer balance here and an opp for a new female ann.
23 of our 25 hours are voiced by males. Some listeners have asked why only 2 hrs for the ladies...
so if I can find another woman who'd like a shot...
I'm all for it.
Meanwhile....it's not easy....not many applicants.

WIXY, if you get off the defense for a moment, you'll notice that "women and minorities are strongly encouraged to apply" was the rewording in the first post I put up. That's all you need...take out the specifics, make it generic, and go from there. We're mostly all adults here; I didn't think it was that hard to figure out.

And Uncle Bill: no one ever intends to offend, discriminate, whatever. I'm not the one who made the law. I'm sure you're a nice guy, but try putting that in a local newspaper... or even a high school newspaper and see who comes a-knockin' on your door. I know the Internet is only seen by a few dozen people per month, but all it takes is one ACLU bozo doing a simple search (which they do, and are paid to do), your post comes up, and WHAM! Do what the big boys do: put up a generic post, gather the replies/responses, and ignore the ones that don't fit what you're looking for.

Again, just trying to help. I guess everyone's so used to people being nasty around here that they can't figure out when someone's trying to do something good for someone.

OK...points well taken...
I'm OK with rewording the whole thing...
Everyone...disregard this one....
Let's start over...
ready to cue "take-2"...(above/ or below)...

Maybe I'm ignorant....but can you cite the law that makes this illegal? I don't remember the Equal Rights Amendment ever passing. I'm sure there are employment laws related to gender discrimination, but this is a volunteer position.

"Lighten up Francis" (Stripes, 1981)

The Stripes reference is exactly what I was thinking in this situation. Where's Sgt. Hulka when you need him to plant his "big toe" square in someone's hindparts?

"That's a fact, Jack!"

If nothing else...the Stripes reference was a hoot.
One of my favs....have to watch it every time it's on.
I even love music...
Might have even added it to the SOJ...
but....'81 is too new for us.
BTW gang...the search is going MUCH better....
and about to wind down.
My "thanks" to all.
