What? You've never heard of any successful listener supported non commercial radio stations. I can give you a list if you'd like.Since when? Even limited-coverage LPFM's need money to survive. That's why many don't.

They still need money to survive don't they? If they don't have enough contributing listeners, they can't make payroll, or pay the bills. What? You've never heard of any successful listener supported non commercial radio stations. I can give you a list if you'd like.
Obviously, I need to clarify what I meant by "making a buck". I was referring to commercial radio stations that aren't hobby stations, that making money for the owner/operator and creating a profit is the priority. They still need money to survive don't they? Not by much. You can wrap it up any altruistic way one wants but it still needs the moolah.Radio can still be more than just about making a buck.

Of course non comm's need money to operate. But their focus is on providing unique programming to the community that is not available on commercial radio, and not about generating a profit. Sorry about the confusion.
WEBR is also not adult standards, but plays some standards mixed with songs that would be acceptable on an AC station in 2021.CJNU and KBRD are non comms, so they dont count in the commercial world of the format. WEBR is a hobby station that might make money
WEBR is not one of my "go to" stations for standards, due to the hybrid Standards/ Soft AC mix. You mentioned in one of your posts that you live in North Carolina, do you ever listen to WLHC / WQLC? The simulcast covers eastern and central NC.WEBR is also not adult standards, but plays some standards mixed with songs that would be acceptable on an AC station in 2021.
There are ways to raise money without advertising. Non comm's can get money from foundations, affiliated school or University, of course listener donations. CJNU has a very creative way to raise money. Every month they have a different non profit or not for profit organization (hospitals, foundations, etc) that sponsors the station, in return for money, CJNU heavily promotes them on air, even airing special programming for them, sort of like a public affairs show. I just wonder if a similar model would work here in the United States. They still need to pay the bills... and running a radio station isnt cheap $15K a month minimum for an all automated FM with just one person doing everything

Do you ever try to have a discussion on this board other than making some brief negative remark, apparently not. This thread is in the music genres section, if you don't want to be a part of that topic, post elsewhere. You never offer a remark or opinion that gives insight or expands the conversation. If its that easy, buy your own non comm and put standards on it and try to get your money that way
I did at one time but it went too far and doesn't have standards any more.WEBR is not one of my "go to" stations for standards, due to the hybrid Standards/ Soft AC mix. Maybe all their songs qualify as standards. Some oldies there too, but nothing really bad. It sounds better than America's Bet Music and it sounds better than WERT because so far there isn't all this rock and roll. However, I'm going back to Christmas music for a while.Yeah, But you gotta love that playlist, along with Sunday morning Hymn Time, and Big Band Sunday Brunch. They play only songs that qualify as standards. And they are owned by Cumulus of all things.
Christmas music in mid- January?! LolMaybe all their songs qualify as standards. Some oldies there too, but nothing really bad. I had to stop listening when a basketball game came on.
They have changed, unfortunately, they are like WAVV mother ship (not the new Easy) now. When did they change? It's been some time since I last listened.I did at one time but it went too far and doesn't have standards any more.
