Re: Nelson Multimedia WJDK-FM, WSQR-FM, WCSJ-AM/FM, WSPY-AM/FM

I, for one, appreciate "Boss Hogg" and what he is trying to do with his "multimedia" complex. His stations are the ONLY ones out of hundreds in the entire Chicago area that broadcast a format that I can appreciate and enjoy. Pity that Kovas got the big power boost instead of Nelson. At least the Nelson stations have some local content. And, BTW, what's wrong with broadcasting farm reports when your stations are located in farming communities? In any case, WGN has been airing them for decades.

To me, "bottom feeder" radio is exemplified by time brokered stations. Do you like hearing time announcements made by "Microsoft Anna", followed by a disclaimer of any responsibility for content, followed by a hodge podge of poorly-produced programs in foreign languages full of noise, hum, and distortion? Great! There are plenty of Chicago frequencies to choose from.

When I'm out in the Western burbs, I always give the Nelson stations a listen; especially 1180 and 1480. I could listen to "Timeless Favorites" all day. That's the music I grew up with, which nobody plays. I just came home from a trip out there today, and I really enjoyed hearing those stations again. My only complaint is that 1480 is very weak where I listen, and 1180 gets hammered both by IBOC noise from 1200 and bleed from 1160. And that's before WHAM starts pounding on them around 3:00 in the winter months.

Like any good company, Nelson is going to want to hire someone who shares their philosophy, goals, and vision. Attitudes, especially bad ones, belong somewhere else.

The 1480 signal has been operating on low power ever since Nelson bought the station back in '01 under a STA.....he's trying to get a multi tower site put up in Millbrook(the new COL will be there too) but has run into local opposition. I believe it's the bureaucrats who are against granting him a conditional use permit for the land!

It's getting harder and harder to find local owners who are committed to serving their communities...at least he's doing so and making a million bucks a year at it!
