Neophyte Piers Morgan Exhibits Huge Bravado, Predicts He Will Be "No. 1" On CNN
Maybe Piers Morgan is just talking the talk, or he has a lot of hubris.
As you know, the "America's Got Talent" judge has been confirmed as the new host of CNN's 9 PM slot when Larry King retires.
In recent years, King has traditionally been beaten in the cable news ratings by Fox News' Sean Hannity, MSNBC's Rachel Maddow, and even HLN's Joy Behar on some nights. (I believe even CNBC topped CNN in the time slot, either in ratings or just demos, on a night or two, as well.)
So imagine my surprise when Morgan said the following at a conference call this week:
"I didn't join the network to come in second or third or fourth. I want to be first."
Sure. When all 32 NFL football teams start each season, certainly, their mindset is not to simply make the playoffs. Of course, using this analogy, I should point out that these are players with years of football experience behind them.
Piers Morgan does not have any talk show experience on his résumé. How does anybody expect to take him so seriously when he makes such an outlandish statement?
