New 91.7 reggae pirate wiping out WMWM fringe

I'm now hearing a new pirate on 91.7 coming in moderately here in Cambridge and Somerville playing reggae and the DJ putting phone callers on the air, grossly overmodulated. I'm guessing it may be from a Boston urban neighborhood somewhere, but can't tell.

I just heard an "advertisement" for an event in Brockton, so it may be relaying one of the other pirates originating from there. If it's actually IN Brockton and I'm getting it in Somerville, that would be very powerful for a pirate.

It's completely wiping out the fringe of WMWM Salem that I can normally hear in Somerville, and I'm guessing that closer to wherever it is, it would be badly adjacent splashing WUMB and WMFO or WMLN.

There is definitely a 91.7 in Brockton, but maybe they're now running multiple transmitters as 89.3 does?

If it is Brockton you're hearing, wow...

What I'm hearing here is new in this area, so they've either just fired up a Boston transmitter, or just greatly increased their power in Brockton, but I suspect the former.

Hopefully will be brought down...lot of stations affected.
I'll see if it's reaching the 128 belt from Reading to
Beverly...meanwhile the 100.1 pirate prob still on

Awful dreck. I hope WMWM files an FCC complaint tomorrow morning!

Yes, I'm still getting the 100.1 pirate too. The fringe of WBRS from Brandeis U. in Waltham used to be audible all over greater Boston on a quality tuner with an antenna, but the 100.1 pirate cuts into it even in parts of Newton (Chestnut Hill) and Watertown (east end). That's been on for around a year now.

The FCC won't act on WMWM's behalf because the pirate interference is outside of their "protected coverage area", but they should act just because it's a PIRATE (and it may be adjacent interfering with WUMB within their "protected area").

Listening to the online stream right now. Even that's got distorted audio! The DJ seems to be enjoying himself immensely, talking over the music in Haitian Creole.

Yes agreed about protected area and right about how UMB could
be affected. Remember when FCC shut down Datz
Hitz 99.7 Dorchestet..complaints fron WCRB. Whether
or not it was in their protected contour, it was also
affecting aircraft radio at Logan

Is Battery March Park even staffed anymore? The Broketown pirates have been on the air for years as well as the East Providence pirate on 103.1! Do they even care up there?

i think 3-4 100W height-limited licenses with a zero-tolerance swift-response to other offenses. would largely solve the problem - 1 haitian, 1 jamaican/bajan 1 trini station, 1 capeverdean setup as non-profits. theres simply way too many haitian stations and interesting college stations are getting clobbered. 90.1 or 91.7 from brockton are almost never audible in dorchester (top of popes hill w/ a Yagi aside)
