NEW AUSTIN-MANOR AM CP TO BE SOLD FOR $1,000.00

Bustos Media Holdings has filed with the FCC to purchase the CP for the new Manor-Austin AM station KTXW at 1120 on the dial.

Bustos is paying $ 1,000.00 for the CP, but has to build the station including its multiple tower array.

The station has a CP for 430 watts/day -- 153 watts/night -- but also filed for a CP to increase daytime power to 5,600 watts which has not yet been approved.

Did Bustos get a good deal?
 
Bustos has gone through some reorganization recently. Still would appear that a Spanish language format or brokered ethnic is on the way on 1120.

Sure has been a long journey for the effort to get a station on this frequency. I recall the construction permit for KTCO in the early 1980's, which was never built.
 
There is a relationship between JNE Investments (Jeffrey N. Eustis, President) and Bustos Media, one that has existed for a number of years. So don't read too much into this "bargain basement" price.

Bustos has KTXV Mabank/Dallas (formerly owned by JNE) along with KREH Pecan Grove/Houston; in addition to other holdings out west Bustos has a station in California that also programs to the Vietnamese community. So I now think it's looking more likely that Austin will be getting its own "Radio Saigon."
 
Wouldn't this effect KTMR at some point?
 
whats on KTMR, looks like bustos have several asian stations, world ethnic, one spanish station and a station off that was oldies/contemporary. they used to have over 25 stations before defaulting to thier lenders. and kept ktxv-asian, kzzr-silent, kzsj-world ethnic, kreh-asian, kpwx-spanish.
 
KTMR is a Spanish format, but I was talking about the reception issues...

Yes, it probably will. When Siga was fighting to relocate KTMR from Edna to Converse they reached a settlement with JNE about the coverage of the station in Manor. The potential for interference between the two stations was obvious, even before the proposal for the quantum leap in power for KTXW. While the technical statement in the current application says it will work, "unexpected" overlap between 1120 and 1130 has to be very likely, regardless of how much power KTXW will be running. That overlap would be mainly on the south side of Austin, of course, where KTMR is easily received.
