New deal brings Audacy content, including live streaming, to the iHeartRadio app

Not exactly. Cumulus and Beasley already have similar deals with iHeart. The companies are all still separate. The other radio companies are just using iHeart's streaming app. Of course FCC rules prohibit the companies from anything else. There are no FCC rules in the streaming world.
Those operators, of course, still control their own stations. Not sure what the requirements are now, but iHeart used to mandate you air its spots during your breaks on streams that went through it. That amount might not be 100%, but I remember it being quite high.
From what I understand TuneIn and Audacy don't have the same requirement. This may have changed, but both used to not require any more than allowing them to air their pre-roll ads before your stream. That was similar to the model StreamAudio popularized about 25 years ago.
When does the new deal take effect?
The Audacy stations are already there. They might be hard to find because they’re buried below a bunch of online only stations, but they’re there. I listened to WMMM 105.5 from Madison on iHeart this afternoon.
yup. Was able to stream an Audacy station at work this AM. I’m glad I can get rid of an app and free up some storage, though the iHeart app seems to run out my cell battery more quickly than Audacy.
yep, all the Dallas Audacy stations are now on iHeart too, i guess this is why they are phasing out the Audacy Roku app as they are moving over to IHeart and TuneIn who both have apps on Roku.
I tend to think the addition of the Audacy stations to iHeart is more of an effect of it phasing out some of its lesser used platforms than a cause.
I do, however, wonder how long the two sides were working on the agreement to get the Audacy station onto iHeart. That iHeart has wanted the Entercom/Audacy stations on its platform since it opened it to other broadcasters more than a dozen years ago has never been a secret. David Field never seemed very willing to play ball with iHeart, though. New people are obviously in charge, and I have to wonder when they started seriously considering the idea.
