New FM News Station Coming to Houston! News 92 FM!

I wondered about the start myself. I've checked a few times, and Praise 92.1 is conducting business as usual on that frequency.

The Friday after Thanksgiving would be good if they had good traffic. I would even send out a couple reporters to the big malls for parking, traffic inside and outside reports. With the big roadside "LED / electronic" bill boards I would start my advertising giving news updates / teaser commercials.

If they do end up streaming, would someone in Houston post a link? I'd like to sample it from here in Ohio, both to hear how they pull it off and to hear a lot of familiar voices doing what they did so well.

@notmenoti I've heard Praise running promos for News 92 and directing listeners to the new home at 102.1 HD2

The Praise 92.1 imaging is pretty much gone. Last sweeper said "The New Praise Houston HD" They're running the same number of spots as they've ever have, which aren't that many.

I'm curious about how many or what percentage of the current Praise 92 listeners own HD radio because they are running promos asking listeners to go out and buy HD radios. I'm thinking maybe less then one in ten of their listeners own HD radios.

IIRC one of the press releases has radio One providing HD radios for the Praise 92 listeners.

That takes me back. I can recall FM stations giving away FM to AM converter boxes for car radios when FM rock was just getting started around 1970.

Is this still launching tomorrow? Just heard a morning show promo for Yolanda Adams saying "the praise continues" and to tune in to her show tomorrow on 92.1.

I heard that promo this morning when I steamed the station. They may be taking about her show on 102.1 HD2 tomorrow?
Then again, maybe they aren't ready to go on the air tomorrow morning. Who knows?

The News92FM launch has been pushed back again to Monday 11/21, per a source at the station.

I wouldn't mind having an HD radio if they were easier to buy.

As for 92.1 switching to news, thank you to those who have provided updates. I'm looking forward to hearing real news again.

Lanny Griffith posted last night on Facebook that it's now set for Tuesday.

And now Lanny posts that it is a Monday 5am launch.

What's the over/under on it?

UPDATE: the website is now live with ABC news content. Facebook page & Twitter are up.

Wow, I always thought HD Radio never had a prayer, but... there you go.

Does anyone know why the launch was pushed back ??

Old Chicago

Sounds like they won't be ready to launch on Monday morning.

They are stunting now and the reason they give for all the delay(s) is because of ll the "technical glitches". I thought the on air staff was not ready because they needed more rehearsal time.

Probably a combination of the two.

If one was working for RO in Houston, I don't know if I would put much faith in RO sticking with this news format for any real length of time! And RO needs to stop making promises they can't keep! lol.....Good Luck to all the new news radio hosts and to Radio One Houston! I really mean this, "I Promise!" lol....It is good to see a radio company hiring staff at Thanksgiving time rather that firing them! Happy Thansgiving to all in the Houston Radio Market Place! Will this new News station be getting new calls with the new format? mmmmm?

Anyone have any info on news of new calls for the station?

Any change is unlikely. Radio One didn't bother with a call change when flipping from La Mera Mera to Praise, and probably won't make a change this time, either. The only reason that the KROI call replaced KRTS was that a change was a stipulation of the sale.

In a PPM world, calls are pretty much irrelevant. The "News92FM" moniker is the key branding.
