Gallup Poll indicates a negative trend not for just TV but also newspapers.

Granted, this was before the howlers CNN and Fox "News" threw at us the day of Chief Justice Roberts' health care decision.

I find it interesting that the networks will insert a 3 minute promo into their evening news for
a show airing later that evening. This was probably done in the past but not as much as today.

Not a surprise here because the Top National Headlines feel rehased every night with the Obama Vs. Romney Reality show. The Public feels that Cable News/Talk is nothing more than a reality show for Politicians. But Look at radio all-news like WTOP-FM, KCBS-FM (aka KFRC-FM), WBBM aka WCFS-FM, KYW-AM, their ratings are stable in the top 10 in their markets. KNX, KGO, WINS and WCBS-AM are within the top 15 in their markets or NPR affiliates like KQED and WAMU. I think the people are not tired of listening to the news but they are tired of the propaganda attached to Fox News, CNN and MSNBC. The reason people in large markets go to all-news radio is because they want to know about other events besides the reality show for politicians that Fox News, MSNBC, and CNN are producing.

The demise of TV news began in 1970 with ABC's "happy news". Then the old "hard news" guys died off and the rest is despicable history.

This has been going on for decades. I recall reading how the yellow journalism in the late 1800s was killing the news industry.

I think news hit its stride in the 70s and has been declining since.

Uh, maybe because people are tired of the grazing of the news rather then the delivery of the news. It's funny considering former Politico journalist, Joe Williams, said it about how the media doesn't ask hard questions anymore rather be beacons of this "protect them" propaganda that has been going on for years. Let's just say there is nothing objective about most US media outlets these days.

If you look at the internals of this study the interesting thing is that political Liberals are souring on television
news at an ever increasing rate. They are now nearly as negative about it as we Conservatives, who began this
process more than a decade ago. We all appear to agree now that TV news pretty much sucks (though perhaps
for slightly different reasons).

News channels leaning both left and right are equally to blame, although I believe the liberals were to blame early on for cultivating the art of "slanting" the news. Now they're all doing it. But don't dismiss the politicians themselves who skillful exploit all of these outlets, from both sides of the aisle. No wonder this country is so diametrically polarized!
