IMHO, there's also no excuse for the absence of Rush and the Doobie Brothers.
And if Madonna can be in the Hall, there's no reason why Chicago shouldn't be.
In recent years the selection process has become a bigger and bigger joke.

It has become a joke, Along with the Progressive Rock bands, Metal and Hard Rock bands also get screwed over, fat chance we'll ever see Deep Purple or KISS get in. Wenner hates those bands.
I lost all respect when Wenner screwed over the Dave Clark 5. Even though they had more votes, he kicked them off the 2007 inductees for Grandmaster Flash & The Furious Five (who only had ONE Top 40 hit compared to the 20+ singles the DC5 placed) because the Hall needed a "rap act" to be politically correct or to get better TV ratings.
And some of the reunions have been a disaster. I loved the Hollies and I was happy to see them get in... I was hoping to see a full band reunion. But to see a drunken Terry Sylvester croak a lousy version of "Long Cool Woman" with a disgusted Allan Clarke pulling the mic out of his hands was totally embarrassing. :-\
