New K-Love translators in and near Springfield on the air

K-Love has new spots on the dial in the Springfield area, as 107.1, 103.7, and 96.7 sign on. We all must really need savin'!

ug... make it stop! I really do enjoy Christian music programming, but this is a little ridiculous!

Not to mention it kills just about all the remaining open frequencies for DXing! Since the first of the year we've lost 98.7 (Radio U), 103.3 (Air One translator) and 102.5 (Radio U translator). There is no escape!

well over here in my area of east central indiana i cant get K105.3 from lafayette anymore (88.1 WJCF Translator on 105.3) and the always present Hot 102.9 from Dayton (WGNR translator over in muncie on 102.9 for anderson based 50,000 97.9 which every time i go to muncie i have no problem getting on 97.9 so i see no need for a WGNR translator in muncie LOL) dont get me started on the WJCF Translators as well 88.1 i can get just fine here in anderson so there is no need for them to have translators in Muncie on 101.7 (which im surprise doesnt bleed into Elwood's 101.7 Signal) 105.3 Anderson and 93.9 New Castle (which kills New Castle's hopes for hearing Sean Hannity on 93.9 from Indy LOL)

You must be right gr8. I also asked myself why all this heavy influx of translators until I found the Wikipedia articles and that answer out for myself.

One question..how do they do the top of the hour IDs seperately instead as a group ID if all there is there is just a repeater transmitter or a translator with no studio????

Hope you're doing okay gr8 and have found a job.

aAbout the legal ID, that's a good question. I know they always said the Dayton station at 96.9 and then also at 102.3 and 104.3 with no call letters.
Either way, it's a bit too much for me.

I believe they have to ID all the translators once or twice a day. WEEC IDs their Marion translator at 6am and 6pm. As to the other question, yes I have but not in radio.

FCC specifies the times that the translators must ID, but I don't believe it's 6A & 6P. I want to say 1PM is one of the times & perhaps 9A. Don't consider those times 'gospel' if you'll excuse the pun.

Translator ID times are:
Once between 7am and 9am
Once between 12:55pm and 1:05pm
Once between 4pm and 6pm.

It's permissible to ID the translator using FSK (frequency shift keying) instead of using an audible ID. One can order translators with a built in clock-triggered FSK feature in the transmitter. EMF may be doing that with theirs.

For an example of using the audible option, WSWO-LP plays a Legal ID that adds the (W268AX) translator ID at the top of the 8:00am, 1:00pm, and 5:00pm hours.

One more question gr8...What about the local stations(WOKL,WVSO and WKLN) legal ID.How are they done? A voice track device at each xmtr I venture to guess?

They use some sort of local insert device to insert the legal ID's, most likely in response to a contact closure on the sat receiver.

I don't know where WKLN in Wilmington is running from. They still have an active license on file for a microwave STL but I imagine it's just a sat dish at the transmitter now like the rest of the K-Love stations.

Why wouldn't they just include the translator id's inside a scheduled announcement that runs on the simulcast? Why run it only on the translator itself? It just sounds like more trouble than it is worth.

K LOVE stations usually have a small mp3 player with the ID recorded on it. It is fired by a contact closure. The translators have morse code FSK IDers built in which ID hourly, but it takes a special receiver to decode the ID. KLOVE never ID's their transaltors verablly. Their format only allows for an 8-10 second ID. Adding translator ID's to that wouldn't work formatically.

Where exactly is WOKL's transmitter? Do they even have a "main studio"?
The coordinates put their current transmitter site off of Dye Mill Road just south of SR 41 on the east side of Troy. Looks like it's behind Boyer Park. They have a pending application (not yet approved) to move to a site just south of Tipp City off I-75.

AFAIK, WOKL is main studio waivered, so it's just a dish and receiver at the TX site.
