New KPFW Morning Show To Fill (Local) Void Left By KWHN

This week, Clear Channel pulled the plug on "Arklahoma AM," which had aired on KWHN (1320) for two decades. Clear Channel claims the primary reason the show was canceled was due to the death of Gary Elmore, who had passed away last month.

Well, once again, Fort Smith is getting a local morning show. While CC's KWHN (1230) airs the sydnicated "America's Morning News" program, KPFW will launch "Arklahoma AM".

KWHN was granted an expanded band facility at 1650 and had been heard there before. I believe it was always simulcast on its original frequency of 1320, though.

Once the transition period was over, Clear Channel decided it was better off remaining on 1320 and signed 1650 off. 1650 is in the process of being transferred to a minority owner with the theory it will be revived as the FCC has been pretty lenient on expanded band stations if they get sold to a minority or a small business.

Interesting that since 1930 (as they like to say oh too frequently) kFpw has been on the air, and has made such a poor impression, lately, that you think the call letters are kPfw. KFPW is a joke and will certainly squander their opportunity to be a leader in morning drive. Rick and Bubba could win the market if allowed to be on without inicidious local interuptions. If KFPW tries a local show in the morning, about the best you can hope for is that their transmitter will fail and you can enjoy dead air. ;D
