New Orleanes,LA 107.5 To Flip To Spanish

Mega1075.com is the website for KMVN in Dallas/Fort Worth. On the other hand, Mega1075fm.com was the domain that was registered by Sunburst, presumably for what is now KCIL. That address brings you to a GoDaddy temporary search page.

C murder is correct as Mega 107.5 is a CBS website (link to radio.com gives it away)

Also the format hasn't been flipped on 96.7 yet (which would be the first to go off the air and relocated to make way for their top rated format station to move there first (as well as get people to move there)

Also 107.5 has not moved to the 106.7 tower yet as it's still broadcasting off of their Bayou Dularge (Theriot) tower.

I'm local and can tell the difference in signal strength between the two...

Rock hits radio 106.3 has actually rolled one or two heritage rock songs in the playlist (namely Kid Rock's latest song) so curious if they are gonna try for a more heritage rocker format like most stations have been moving to lately...

So until 96.7 goes country , I'm calling this one speculation.. but would make sense.. however they have to move 96.7 as the signal is too weak from the current location to be considered covering the bayou area

The FCC database shows Sunburst has moved the KCIL calls from 107.5 to 96.7. 107.5 is now KXMG.

Hadn't listened to 96.7 for the top of the hour IDs, But It's still classic hit Dan FM, 107.5 is just one of the local DJs calling it KXMG Houma but still calling itself c-1075

Dan-Fm's domain expired and is streaming from the 106.3 website with a post saying that the site has "technical difficulties"

Hate to see a out of town corporation trying to move a hometown station out and resorted to B/S to get it to New Orleans (instead of doing like most and trying to build in Lafourche parish and rimshot it)

Now would be to see if they turn spanish, what KGLA will try to counteract with ....

Not sure even though they said 5% of the population, if Arbitron could survey that populace as many are cell phone only I know

The change is starting to happen, 96.7 Dan FM is now history, replaced by a rebroadcast of the 107.5 signal, however other than TOH, everything is still IDing as 107.5 ..So curious when they will come clean with the people as 96.7 signal still not too good in Houma/Thibodaux area on portables

Announcement finally made today.. 107.5 country format flipping to 96.7 signal however delay was due to possible flooding at 96.7 site. However they have said flip should be quick and to change presets already

I think it's how they got it patched running thru the boards at the station, but yeah 96.7 during hurricane season is a lot louder

Thats is the one Million dollar question; What and when? I haven't read anything on their website or their blogs for the move. Only the calls swap and the simulcast on 96.7 (although the sound has gotten better). As for the format for 107.5 That still remains to be heard. The talk was N.O.'s first spanish FM but KGLA beat them with their translator on 105.7. Radio Locator is a good tool for info, but take it with a grain of salt. They still list Guaranty's Baton Rouge adress instead of Sunburst's Texas adress.

While the format switch on 107.5 could happen at any time, don't expect the move to the KMEZ tower within the next six months, probably longer. Here is why I make that comment. First, The construction permit for the move was set to expire over a year ago. It was issued in 2007 and through a legal maneuver known as "tolling" is has not expired. Even though the FCC has provided 36 months to build the facility, it has not been built in over 49 months! Economic conditions are far worse now than in 2007 and with copper prices going up almost daily, an expensive project will be even more so whenever they "pull the trigger." In order for 106.7 and 107.5 to coexist at the top of the tower, a diplexer will be needed. With the stations only 800 kHz apart, a four pole filter will be needed, which will require a lot of floor space. The transmission line will probably need to be replaced with a larger size in order to handle the additional power requirements of the second station. Good engineering practice dictates that when you increase the size of over 900 feet of transmission line as well as adding an STL dish and its line, a structural analysis of the tower is necessary to determine whether additional bracing or strengthening of the tower is necessary. If additional work on the tower is necessary, it has to be completed before anything is put on the tower. A second building will be necessary to accomodate the diplexer and additional transmitter facility. That requires building permits, which is additional lead time. And all this is to happen in Louisiana marsh land during hurricane season? Homey don't think so!

I love how EHarvey thinks.. I knew it needed a duplexer but figured when the station was rebuilt after Katrina wiped it away (remember that 106.7 got a nice log in the middle of the shack) they may had upgraded the hardline

One.. radio-locator uses the format the callsign was last issued to normally and don't update (but trying to find an example of such as they were up to 6 months wrong recently) but right now the station is currently country and still using c107 monkier.

They have been advertising the fact on air that they are moving, the fact that supposedly the Atchafalaya River flood waters worry have kept them away from doing work at the tower in Gibson (for 96.7) however instead of promoting up the 96.7 frequency like most stations that plan on flash cutting they haven't.. and this move of 96.7 is on condition that 107.5 moves.

IMO I still question why they wanted to do it to this day as their reasoning was Houma was growing smaller (actually everyone just moved out the city limits) and was a way for sunburst to move what stations they can to New Orleans.

One thing to remember, 107.5 always has construction permits issued to it , it seems mostly were a move to Larose to feed into New Orleans. But like Eharvey says, Tolling can only last so long and remember if 107.5 is moved east, they are gonna have to come up with the money to Citadel as they will be off the air for awhile plus constant tower space rental (would be my guess)

It's gonna be a few surprising months for sure!

May the speculating begin!!!!!!!!

Announced on air is the big flip of the KCIL country format is supposed to be July 1st (This Friday) with money giveaways for people tuning in to the "new" c-96.7

However on-air people are still using the c-107 name and such on air which I figure management would be trying to "train" right now. As well as facebook/internet not being changed around which I figured they would be promoting hard.. Surprised that for a format flip from a location that has been the same for 20 years there isn't anymore "Movement"

My guess is CHR or Hot AC. The signal is very marginal in New Orleans to program to an already rather small niche with a spanish format.

They have to move as this is why they were allowed to move 96.7 closer to Houma and the big switch for... I'm guessing is the format of country may stay on 107.5 but the naming and such will move to 96.7 that day (actually I'm looking for the paperwork for them to file saying they are trying out the new 96.7 transmitter etc etc) but not expecting any new format for another week or two would be my guess.

Field Tech, you hadn't looked at the local New Orleans paper I take it on the hispanic numbers as they are surprising but I agree that in a market where the local stations aren't even registering with the stations on the air, they would have to do a Hot A/C as XMG could be a Mega like some hinted about or My guess a decoy? All I do know is KGLA beat them to the punch with the translator

They keep hinting the flip is at 7am tommorrow and that supposedly the simulcast will end but I can definitely tell you they havent done a serious burn in on KCIL 96.7 yet as the audio has snow in it from time to time kind of like a not pointed correctly microwave link... Good way to start a new station huh, with people complaining..

Regarding the NOLA Hispanic demo, as of 2010 census, Jefferson Parish had 12%, New Orleans Metro about 8%, if you include the illegals and other under-counted, you could probably bump the metro figure by 2 or 3 points, which equates to roughly 110,000 Hispanics here. So a small but substantial population. The real problem is Arbitron - neither Spanish station has registered above a .3 share for the last 4 books.

Also, I agree they haven't promoted the KCIL switch to 96.7 nearly as much as they needed to. And I thought it was their moneymaker!

From what I know about the ratings etc... It's number 1 in the area and yeah they basically moved it to second rung status as the signal aint as great as it was and they can't really gain much more due to 96.5 out in Lafayette and a 96.7 in Biloxi

I figured they would have blown up 106.3 as at least the tower is closer to the center than Gibson.

Hell most listeners are still going where my radio station went... No ads, not even change the slogan till they made the actual move. This is not how you take care of the station that is making you your money right now.

I know the spanish population is there but unless you can sell advertising and get people into your station that is going to be a hard pill to handle. New Orleans technically has been at the forefront of early 20th century trade relations with Central America and you figure with that kind of history we would have had more than we have so far.

Truthfully I'd love to see the number at 6 months as it's gonna take a ad filled blowout on billboards all over New Orleans to get the word out on a station they can't hear there until they move the transmitter (except for the small growing community here on the bayou)
