New owner Entercom to flip WILD-FM Boston area to rock

It's supposed to be today at 5:30 ET, with the simulcasting of WAAF, then it will become brokered programming and a possiblity to be simulcast with WEEI when they broadcast the Red Sox.

Yup, no problem...and I also think the poss. of them simulcasting Red Sox games with WEEI is a possibility.

There is still JAMn 94.5 left in Boston but I think older R&B fans may not be into their CHurban as much.

Of course, that's the most important thing, isn't it? Who cares that the black community lost their voice on FM in Boston. And need we be reminded that the Red Sox deal has been debated and haggled over to death before they came up with that lame deal to put the games on both WRKO and WEEI. Boston is simple not a minority friendly radio market.

Jamn must be pretty happy about this though, a top ranking station with no competitior

97.7 is now stunting. (Supposedly there was an announcement at 7 pm and a last song) It has a computerized voice ("Thirteen hours, forty two minutes, seven seconds
and counting") with some movie quotes, song lyrics, and jokes thrown in.

Format change Tue at 5:30 pm.
From Boston Herald: "The move will end hip-hop’s reign on the station and leave local competitor WJMN-FM (Jam’n 94.5) the sole station on the FM dial for rap music. That had members of the Hub’s urban music scene voicing their displeasure.
“Its terrible,” said rapper Ed Anderson, who goes by the pseudonym Edo G. “I mean, we don’t have black radio in Boston as it is, now we really don’t have black radio in Boston.”
Though the purchase isn’t expected to close until later this year, Entercom expects to begin broadcasting WAAF on 97.7 today. Late (last) night, the station broadcast a robotic-sounding countdown. No DJS, commercials or music were played.

In addition, WILD’s AM sister station 1090 will adjust its format. Radio One will move the Tom Joyner morning show from 97.7 FM to AM-1090. News talk programming will be discontinued on WILD 1090 and replaced with contemporary inspirational and gospel music, Jones said.
Also cut will be the Jimmy Myers (talk) show

Jammin 94.5 is CHR-Rhythmic, WILD-FM was Urban, leaning Urban AC. I don't think their audiences crossed that much. But jammin is still a powerhouse in Boston, and I'm surprised all the so called radio experts haven't tried to take them on. Instead, the radio execs in Boston all obsess over the shrinking audience of white men.

You are right but, WILD's and Jamn's audience crossed more in the evening when it was dayparted younger.
I guess no one takes Jamn on becuase they have a really good pd? Jamn and Kiss are both powerhouses 12+ and 12-34, and the others seem to be obsessed over fighting for a piece of the older pie.
