New Pirate Station on 101.5 interfering with NJ 101.5 in Essex County

Tuned to NJ 101.5 from the Bloomfield area and received a Caribbean pirate powering completely over NJ 101.5! There goes another station ruined, unless it goes off the air. How many pirate stations have to operate with the same format??

Yup I was going to post about it since this is the first time I have ever heard a pirate on that frequency in NJ......I can no longer hear 101.5 in Southern Bergen County.....The pirate did seem to be off tonight when I was driving home (9pm).

Seems these pirates don't care, they'll just be on any frequency, and the FCC won't go in their hood....unless there was an EDM pirate ::)

That EDM pirate in Trenton moved to Elizabeth, and I don't know where it is now.

......Oooooh....102.3. They've been gone for over a year lol.

The 101.5 one disappeared the night after discovering it, Thank god. I have noticed a strong pirate on 101.3 in the Clifton area, strong enough to hear through WCBS's hash

There is a very strong pirate on 102.5 somewhere around Orange/East Orange. It actually bleeds into WWFS on 102.7 and makes Fresh unlistenable.

How times have changed. When I was a teen, I had a Part 15 station in the bedroom. I used the limiter in an old Webcor tape recorder in the audio chain before the transmiter. AM of course. NOW, these guys are running used Crown 100+ watt FM's with used Omnia or Optimods purchased on ebay!

I wonder if anyone listening to Fresh 102.7 notices that, when passing through on the Garden State Parkway, as something that shouldn't be there.

Been hearing pirates in Newark area on 101.5 for years now. But even without them on, the 101.5 signal is so diminished in Bergen County (with some fringe signal from WPDH not helping) I wonder why (except for 'show') they even bother including "leaving the city on the GWB" in their traffic reports.

you would think a station broadcasting as 'proud to be NJ' would find a way so that ALL of NJ could hear it. i'd love to hear big joe up north, but we don't get it well past exit 145. even down the shore it's been coming in with alot of static lately...

Because if the traffic is backed up for an hour, like it often is, you can make your decision on another route long before you get there.

They have: http://radiopup.com/

that 101.5 Pirate can Be heard all across Brooklyn also..
there is also a strong 102.3 Pirate in Brooklyn, a 1620AM In Queens near JFK airport.. I know He is running a range master with an Isotron antenna up 40+ feet in a tree, But he covers almost 5 miles… too strong For it to be just a range master...

NJ 101.5 can be heard at the GWB, so mentioning it is useful. Plus, people might be streaming it in their car.

Oh, you are very much correct! For years, I've been hearing the pirate, not NJ 101.5 in Brooklyn! It is called "Brooklyn Mix", slogan: "The #1 Station (echo station)". Here's their website, http://brooklynmix.ning.com/. Luckily, I got the XDR-S3HD from Sony recently, and WKXW has turned on HD, so the tuner receives HD over the pirate! I really like listening to NJ 101.5 by the way, and this crazy pirate never gave me a chance to listen to it (unless the morning hours until around 10 or so, almost everyday).
EDIT: And yes, even longer than how I remember 101.5 there was 102.3 (under various names). It takes a few hiatuses of a month or two every year as I recall (last hiatus was during the summer).

Pirates?!

Has the FCC slacked off on its vigilance with regard to pirate radio stations? I know a few people who were contacted or
at least showed up on the FCC radar mere days after going on the air, unlicensed. Unless the neighbors complained...
Also, what is an EDM? I know the FCC in the past liked to make sure their pursuit of pirates was well publicized and documented
because that would only serve as a lesson to potential or would-be broadcast pirates who were considering going
on the air. Ever since I was little I wanted to own my own radio station. I know that is probably still possible, especially if you
are willing to accept a standalone am in some one-horse town. A chief engineer I know says that over the next few
years the big chains will be unloading some of the lower-power am stations (1000-watts and less for example)
and the prices will become more reasonable and there still is potential. As long as you keep it local and specific to
the market (and it is more immediate and personal than newspapers) especially during a weather emergency or
catastrophe such as Hurricane Katrina or Hurricane Sandy and then snowstorm that followed. As a station manager, I would be
willing to wear as many hats as I could, except for transmitter maintenance which I am not qualified for. I would pay myself what
I used to get paid (shoestring) in radio as an announcer/air personality and so it would not break the budget and
all incoming revenue could be used to pay down bills and liabilities.

Anyone ever catch a free radio station on 92.9? Bout a month ago, I heard a station playing some punk near Audubon. Had a range of from what it seemed was about 6 miles!!!
