New radio home for East Texas Football teams

Reports in the Jacksonville Daily Progress report that Waller Broadcasting (KLJT, KFRO, KEBE, et al) have dropped the broadcast rights for Jacksonville and Longview High School football.

The Jacksonville Indians will be carried by KWRW-FM, a station based in Rusk, but with a heavy Jacksonville influence. No word on who will carry the Longview Lobos.
 
It was announced several weeks ago that the Longview Lobo's will be on KKUS, the Ranch as well as KFRO-AM.
 
At least you guys in East Texas have stations that will carry your teams. Here in the Rio Grande Valley, a place where HS Football is like a religion, not one station will carry games. That's what happens when all of your stations have been bought up by large corporations who care nothing about the public interest.

I don't doubt it, but it is amazingly stupid. Local sports is like finding money on the ground. There is NOTHING easier to get sponsored. Businesses will gladly send checks to be associated with these events, expecting very little in return. At least, that has been my experience....
 
Count your blessings. You could be carrying "Southlake Carroll" Football( repeated 5A champs who love running scores up). Chuck Kelly is the play by play guy, who treats his interns,and suport crew like pure crap. His ego is larger than a hanger for a space shuttle. The producers at two radio stations that carried his game say its more about him than the game. He insists that all games be recorded on Cd instead of mini disc or better. One small glitch and he wants your blood. He will endlessly belittle you and whine to the station mgr. He feels he is the heir apparent to legendary Bob Berry who has been announcing U.Of OKLA games for 40 years. So if you are stuck with doing Southlake Carroll games,stock up on the bayer Asprin, and have a therapist on retainer. Chuck 's arrogance will suck the life out of a cactus.

Geeez, Joe Buck's probably staying awake at night wondering when this 'voice of dragon football' is gonna take his gig away from him.

Chuck Kelly is an idiot and as a former manager of a station that dealt with him, I can assure you I wouldn't do it again. As far as south Tx. That could be money in the bank for a station wants money that wouldn't normally buy their station.
 
My experience with Chuck, going back nearly 20 years, is that he was, is and always will be a class A conceited jerk.
