New radio home of the Columbus Crew

From the Columbus Crew today...

COLUMBUS, Ohio (Friday, March 10, 2006) — Columbus Crew General Manager Mark McCullers, in conjunction with Clear Channel Regional Vice President Tom Thon, announced today that The Brew @ 105.7 (WBWR-FM), will serve as the new English radio home of the Columbus Crew.

“Clear Channel Columbus is an industry leader and valued partner,” said McCullers. “We are proud to call The Brew our flagship station.”

All 32 regular-season Crew games and every Crew playoff match will be broadcast live on The Brew, kicking off on Saturday, April 1, at 8:30 p.m. (ET), with the season opener against the Kansas City Wizards at Arrowhead Stadium. Dwight Burgess, “The Voice of the Crew,” will call the action for an 11th successive season, with former Tampa Bay Mutiny broadcaster Jim Henderson also calling some games. A new 15-minute pre-game show will precede each game broadcast.

Additionally, the “Crew Soccer Update” will air daily, Monday-Friday, and begins on March 27. Donatos, Huntington, OhioHealth and Pepsi are all presenting sponsors of both the “Crew Soccer Update” and each Crew Game Broadcast. Webcasts of all Crew games can also be heard on TheCrew.com.

“We think the fit between Columbus’s newest radio station – The Brew – and the Columbus Crew could not be better,” Thon said. “We look forward to welcoming Crew fans from across central Ohio to the unique music and sports programming offered on The Brew.” Thon said that The Brew’s new format focuses on a high-energy blend of 1980s rock music that should appeal to Crew game listeners.

The Crew also has a similar broadcast agreement with a Spanish-language radio station.
