NEW SPORTS RADIO NETWORKS, WILL STATIONS CHANGE?

That will mean one less AM preset for this non-sports fan's car radio and home stereo. And I used 1090 a lot. Would at least like them to moving the KPTK format to an HD-FM channel to preseve the format, and try to stimulate HD radio conversion for another audience segment that's motivated to hear the programming. But I guess that's too much trouble when you've got a sports empire to build.

I'm really scratching my head over what's left on AM that's worth a preset that isn't already on my six buttons. Two of them on my radio are for Vancouver stations that are getting more interference from out of town and spillover of local stations. (Why should KVI show up under 690 CBU - especially when I drive near Crist'a 630 daytime tower?)

Gonna have to try the Korean station from Everett now, I guess. Such a shame that broadcasters aren't required to program for different audiences anymore. Or have an incentive toward license renewal to find a way to serve more than the fantasy "young adults" that just aren't going to be there in droves on AM, no matter what. Just crush the competition head-on while you all chase after the same few listeners, and see what's left of AM radio's credibility in a couple more years. Lots of stations are controlled by a chosen few at corporations run by folks who are on a mission to convert everyone to their particular form of fundamentalist religion/politics -- the kind that pays by the minute, maybe by the hour, for airtime. At least until the next homemade preacher comes along. Not unlike an older profession, actually. There will be little else left on AM in metro Seattle for general audiences apart from KOMO and KIXI. Grrr!

Goodbye, CBS. Won't be listening after January 1. And its a shame Sandusky didn't pick up the format. Besides just a few people, doesn't anyone listen to 1150? I mean, I know its a lot like a college station in that of the variety of programs, but I just don't see a lot of people listening to it (at least it isn't ranked in Arbitron). Sandusky can make some more money off of the format.

Andy, if you could revise your entry on the Everett Post, 770 and 710 and 97.3 are owned by Bonneville, NOT Entercom. No more Seattle AM for Entercom.

this is the dozenth time ive recomended it here when seattle formats get eliminated. try satellite radio. yes, they have a left wing channel with all your fav lefty obama butt kissin hosts. oh, and never give up. we used to be void of waylon music on the seattle radio waves until 1520 AM made the aggressive radical extreme move to play the format called "classic country".

....or perhaps, as one corporate wisenhiemer here used to post to me. "then buy your own station" and program what you want. yep, thats in the cards after i buy a new fleet of cadillac escapades.

Yes, they've already changed the hourly legal ID to WFNQ ("Fan-Q very much!"). The rest of the positioning bumpers still just say "Seattle's Progressive Talk (or "TAWKK") AM-1090. But we know what's going to happen now, official press release or not.

My problem with Sirius-XM Radio is the lack of classical or world music channels. And the fatiguing low-quality bandwidth for their talk services. I recently stayed in Vancouver at an inn that had the basic Rogers Cable subscription, which included the full line up of Galaxie audio channels. One was a radio reading service, several CBC outlets from different time zones, and the rest were a nice mix of mainstream and speciality formats, including an all "chamber music" classical channel, which was a great background channel with some substance to it, and helped me to relax and get to sleep with a lot of late night noise outside my room.
Galaxie also offered, as part of the basic package, multiple music channels of jazz, blues, rock, country, kids stuff, etc. But what I really appreciated was dozens of pop and traditional channels of music from South Asia, multiple Persian channels, a couple of Filipino ones, several Chinese ones, a Russian one, Arabic ones, a few Latin-American and Caribbean music services (less of the Mexican emphasis that we get on Comcast), which reflect the major minority populations in Canada. And, of course, several French pop, rock, oldies and Franco-country stations. More than one choice per language or "format." And they are fun to listen to for the rest of us, too.

Which is why I'm ready to figure out how to stream broadcast-quality internet audio from anywhere in my car and kitchen and bedroom, to get what I enjoy, when and where I want to listen. So I'm open for ideas on whether a particular smartphone and provider is best for that, or if its best to use an internet-only radio receiver such as Grace sells out of. Perhaps it's time for a new thread here...

SeattleObserver - thank you for the clarification on 97.3, 770, and 710 being controlled by Bonneville. It's like when people see me and call me by my brother's name. I know the stations are owned by Bonneville. I know and have a great deal of respect for Carl Gardner, and even in passing, I STILL say Entercom from time-to-time. In fact, I did it at the last WSAB board meeting. It's one of those things I can't get out of my head...my version of radio ownership Tourettes. My sincere apologies.

Over 8,000 have petitioned on www.saveKPOJ.com to bring back the Progressive Talk format in Portland.

This is just like Smooth Jazz. Smooth Jazz has had it's final nail in the coffin screwed in. Next is Progressive Talk. I can't wait for ANOTHER sports station to take up AM... :p

I always thought KVI should flip .... left end of dial and left end of spectrum would be fun.

Kinda like a bizarro version of the positioner at AM 1600 in New York back in the Bush administration: "Our frequency is the same as the White House's address - but the views aren't!" :D
