New Sports Talk Show (not on a sports station)...

I have a friend who starts a sports talk show on 1190 later this week. It's a good show - and they're not pay to play!

1190 was looking for live and local talent for weekend shows that aren't basically infomercials.

The guys who do the show said they were in talks with The Fan earlier this year to do a weekend show, but it fell through because they actually talked sports too much!?? Hmm...The sports talk station wouldn't hire someone because they talked too much sports? The fail is a joke.

If anyone is interested in a local show with a couple of guys who talk about sports outside of the metroplex (yes, there are other teams not named Cowboys, Rangers, Mavericks, Stars), among other things, give them a try. One of the guys worked at 105.3 the duration it was hot talk, so we may see some guy talk too!

No, I'm getting paid to post this. One of the guys is a good friend who has been in Dallas radio for almost 10 year and the other guy was in New york radio 7 years before coming to Dallas and they deserve some attention.

I personally want to buy 1190 and put something worthwhile on there.

I didn't even know the station was around until he told me.  When do they play country music?  I was looking at their website and it shows mostly talk shows and some CNN stuff.

It's a great daytime signal, so if you buy you'll have plenty of opportunity to compete.

Think Clear Channel would sell?

Oh, I forgot to say in the 1st post, they're on 2pm-4pm Saturdays, and will probably go to 6pm once Tech football is over.
 
1190 plays classic country in the gaps of programming. usually at night or sometimes during the afternoon.

Im sure CC would be glad to shed itself of 1190.
A sad ending for Dallas' best Top 40 station.

I didn't mention their names because they're not really known. Kinda seemed pointless to say their name when people would just think "Who the F is that?"

DJ Rounsley is the main host, his co-host is Matt Fraguella (Not sure I spelled Matts last name right). I worked with DJ at Live/Free FM and then again over at KLIF. He's made a career of radio and has been able to pay his bills! Must be doing something right! And I think he still does a car show saturday mornings at salem.

I don't know Matt very well. I know he came from WCBS in New York about 4 or 5 years ago and has been at KSKY since.

They did a bunch of fill-in stuff in smaller stations outside of Dallas, but now getting their 1st shot in the market.

it has a Ben and Skin feel...which is not awful but not good either. I think Sports talk hosts need to relate to the audience and lose the amped up top 40 style radio voice. I think authenticity is critical!

it's a shame, too.  Just trying to give a "high 5" to to a couple of guys who worked hard to get where they want to be and a couple of sour grapes spoil the bunch.

Just don't understand the hateful mentality of creating an account just to say bad stuff about someone?  Pretty sad.
 
BobbyR is exactly how you described him. Leave it at that.

Lots of shows have passed through this market. Hopefully a show full of producers that are humble and fun enough will succeed. Too many stations rely on name recognition and then the shows fall flat. Maybe a bunch of starving no names will be the fit.

I agree..good for them. Hopefully they use the hours to develop their own style. There's a Ben and Skin sucks thread that I occasionally post on that shares my thoughts on that "wink, wink...we know more and are fooling then the audience" style that makes B@S in my opinion just insufferable...well that same style is present on these guys 3 minute demo. But, they are just beginning and I imagine they will improve. I'm hoping their demo is just for potential advertising purposes otherwise they are really going about things the wrong way. Mislead the advertisers not your audience!
