New Station-Olivehurst AM 890 CP-MOD--Proposed Tower Site Near KTKZ Near Sac Riv

https://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/w...t=25&appn=101523771&formid=301&fac_num=160999

A little known CP 890 in Olivehurst, previously owned by Carl Auel (Valley Broadcasting) was recently sold to Tom Huth. He's applied to change the daytime tower location to what looks like KTKZ's daytime site along the Yolo County side of the Sacramento River across from the GreenhavenPocket area with 10KW. The night-time site would remain near Marysville, broadcasting with less than 500 watts.

890 in this region has a distinction of being housing a 50,000 Watt CP that was never built by the late Kin Shaw Wong, owner of Capital (Captiol) Telephone. The CP was cancelled in the early 90's.

This actually may go up fast:

THE PROPOSED FACILITY WILL OPERATE FROM SEPARATE DAY AND NIGHT SITES, BOTH DIPLEXED ONTO EXISTING ANTENNA SYSTEMS AND REQUIRES NO TOWER CONSTRUCTION. BOTH THE DAY AND NIGHT ANTENNA SYSTEMS COMPLY WITH ALL RELEVANT FCC RULES AND POLICIES AND REQUIRE NO WAIVERS FOR GRANT.

THE 1000 MV/M BLANKETING INTERFERENCE CONTOURS ENCOMPASS 53 PERSONS DAY AND 0 NIGHT, FAR BELOW THE MAXIMUM OF 300 PER 47 CFR 73.24(G).

NO SITE PLAT OR TOWER SKETCH IS PROVIDED FOR EITHER MODE SINCE USE WILL BE MADE OF EXISTING SITES WITH NO TOWER MODIFICATIONS.

Is there anything anyone can do today with a new AM signal? Existing AM's are having trouble, and I have yet to see any new AM signal gain traction at all. The big examples that come to mind are "Rush Radio" in Boston and KTRB in San Francisco. KTRB certainly has signal problems, but they cover a good swath of the Bay Area. Yet hardly anyone knows they exist. In Boston, the new station had some of the top syndicated talk shows in the country. Yet the ratings were dismal.

I guess the 1240 in Sacramento did manage to glean some audience when it was progressive talk, but it wasn't enough to sustain operations. But can anyone here point out a situation where a new AM appeared in a large market and was able to garner any decent ratings? Or even be profitable?

I didn't know it was possible to "share" an AM site. Isn't the height of the tower somehow directly related to the specific frequency/wavelength? The application states filters would be installed to separate the stations at each site. Interesting...

KTKZ's tower site is in Sacramento county on the east side of the river on the levee road, just so you know. I've driven by it many times and have been in the TZ building with a friend that worked there when it was still KGMS.

Excuse me it is me that is wrong oops! Got my directions NEWS mixed up. My Bad.....sorry.....that's what happens when working 15 hours a day.

Yes, it's called diplexing. 1240 and 1620 were diplexed on the tower at the old dump. Not sure if they still are.

Tom stands to make a good bit of change as a result of the sale. Look at the application attachments for details.
